We all know that going back to school means sniffles and colds will also be back in full swing. With six kids, a cold (not to mention allergies we all suffer from them) can last for months in my house! One the first things I do when school starts is stock up on tissues so I don’t have to run around buying them. Just last week we had our first back to school cold and the first thing my kids do when they’re sick and have a sore nose from all those sniffles is grab a blanket and a box of tissues. I was so glad I stocked up when I was Sam’s Club (see below for a chance to wins gift card) last week and bought Puffs Plus Lotion’s new 10 pack (the perfect tissue for sore/runny noses needing some extra softness). Scroll through for a step by step instructions for the back to school DIY pen & pencil holder.
I keep everyones bedsides stocked so that everyone has them when it’s needed. I love that their boxes are so pretty too!
Back To School DIY Pen & Pencil Holder
Since we’re a big family and go through a ton of tissues, I figured that I’d put those Puff’s Plus Lotion’s boxes to use! No one wants a disorganized house, especially when it’s back to school and there’s homework to do. With sick kids to take care of, this tissue box pen and pencil holder was the perfect addition to our desk. Keeping my desk kid friendly makes sense for us because we share my desk a decision I made and I work at home. This project took under one hour to make and the kids loved filling it with their back to school necessities.
Back To School DIY Pen & Pencil Holder
What You’ll need:
Two boxes of tissue
Paper money wrappers
Stapler and staples
Scissors
Black, gold, silver and white spray paint
How To:
Draw a straight line from the thinnest point of the perforated edges on the tissue boxes opening.
Cut with a box cutter and repeat on corners of the tissue boxes.
Trim money wrappers to fit the boxes you’ll be placing them in and put it inside the box. *Don’t worry about wrappers fitting perfectly, they won’t even show when you’re done spray painting them.
Spray paint boxes with money wrappers inside of them. When dry, staple the inside corners together.
That’s it! Now you can fill your DIY pen and pencil holder with your desk needs, along with Puffs Plus Lotion’s tissue for all those sniffles and sneezes.
Pin for later!

Such an adorable back to school pencil holder. And I totally love how you repurposed that Puffs box. Great use of resources and very practical. This would make a cute teacher’s gift. Ooh, and a contest. Too fun!

I love to see crafts that repurpose stuff we usually just throw out. I don’t have school kids in the house anymore, but I would still want to make this pen and pencil holder. Easy access to when I need to write something down, instead of searching for a pen or pencil in drawers! Thanks for the reminder to stock up on Puffs Plus Lotion tissues! My hubby has a cold right now and he would need this!

What a cute craft idea. I would never have thought about using the coin wrappers to stick the pens/pencils in. This is something my daughter would like to make. I can see her using her duct tape to add style to it.

What an awesome idea! I should take your advice finally get my pen drawer from hell under control. I swear I still have some of the pens I brought with me 6+ years ago when I moved to from the States!
And I’m totally jealous of your stylish tissue box, those haven’t found their way to Denmark yet 🙁

What a cute craft. This would work perfectly in our homeschool room and I think it is something my big kids might even be able to make on their own with supervision. Thank you so much for the idea, we are going to have to use up a puffs container stat!

This absolutely perfect! I have some DIY projects myself as well but will definitely save this for future reference. Great work!

Looks really good both fashion and function wise. I think it is way better to make something like this at home using cardboard and other eco-friendly options, rather than buying plastic-made pen holders and organizers. In reality, this looks way better than ugly plastic products.
