Add the butter to a pot over medium heat.
Saute the onions in the skillet until softened.
Mix in the garlic, and saute for 30 seconds longer.
Place 1 cup of chicken broth, the cream cheese and sour cream into a food processor or blender, and pulse until smooth.
Pour the rest of the chicken broth and the cream cheese mixture into the pot.
Stir in the green chilis, cumin, oregano, paprika, chili powder, cayenne and salt and pepper to taste.
Mix in the canned chicken, and simmer until the mixture thickens and heats through.
Remove from the heat, and garnish with the cilantro, monterey jack cheese and jalapeno slices before serving.
