Living in Florida means that it’s always hot and humid. When I first moved, I limited myself to only wearing tank tops, shorts and flip flops because I wasn’t accustomed to the heat. To be honest, I was being lazy and not really looking for ways to keep cool and be fashionable at the same time. Once I got out there and made a real effort to shop for clothing pieces that both fit my style and kept me reasonably cool, I realized that it was all about what fabrics I chose. I began to incorporate lots of cotton pieces and quickly realized that I could even layer my new lightweight cotton pieces because it’s breathable and actually helps keep you cool in the summer. Cotton quickly became a must not just for me, but for my family as well.

The benefits of cotton are unmatched and you can find them sitting right in your home in the clothing that you already love to wear, making it super easy to add to your wardrobe for more styling options. The versatility can take you from day to night and most cotton pieces are durable and easy to maintain right at home so that it’s convenient too. Just last week, I went shopping for some new pieces for a quick weekend getaway and found a ton of items that I could easily work with. I can even use them for outfits into fall! Below are five key pieces that will keep you cooler in cotton.

Don’t let the long sleeves and denim in this shirt fool you; denim is made of cotton and this shirt is a classic that will never go out of style. It’s lightweight and can be worn as a cover up for the beach or with your favorite pair of shorts. The possibilities are endless and I always carry it along with me when I travel.

I love to layer and cotton lets me do so all year round! This stylish 100% cotton (link)vest can be worn year-round over dresses (as seen above), tank tops, or even over the denim shirt mentioned above.

A white tee is a classic cotton must-have for just about everyone! I always stock up on cotton tees for the whole family because they’re so affordable and versatile.

Every season I buy myself a new striped piece for my closet. This year it came in the form of a handkerchief hem dress. It is SO comfortable and easy to wear!

Strappy heels can add a sexy stylish touch to any outfit! These ankle tie sandals are the most comfortable pair of heels I’ve ever worn and when I pair it with my cotton pieces, I’m ready to go!

Our First Staycation

We’ve lived about 15-20 minutes away from the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks for over 11 years and it wasn’t until this weekend that we actually got out there to really explore it. It  turned into our first staycation that was a lot more fun than I thought it would be.
We went on a sunset cruise that takes you  to a little island where you can collect shells and watch the sunset.

Did a little window shopping. I thought that most stores were for souvenirs but they actually had a few stores that carried cool jewelry and some pretty dresses.

Indulged in some authentic greek food at a little restaurant called Mykonons.

Our First Staycation

Have you ever had a staycation? I actually loved the convenience of being able to come home every night instead of renting a hotel. Next up: We’re actually headed right back to Tarpon Springs for their Hippie Fest in August.
