Munch on these churro chips with the same cinnamon sugar flavors as the classic churro dessert! They are an easy low-carb snack that can become pretty addicting.
Are Churros Keto-Friendly
Who else just loves churros? These crispy dessert sticks, with the flaky dough that melts in your mouth, leaving cinnamon and sugar on your lips, the entire experience of eating them brings back so many happy memories. I’m a huge churro fan, and so I took everything I love about churros and put them into some snackable low-carb tortilla chips.
Now, whenever I’m craving churros, I just grab a handful of these chips – craving is satiated and I get to stay in ketosis!
Tortilla Churros
It’s easy to make keto tortilla chips. You just need to use my favorite fathead dough recipe, cut the dough into triangles, and then bake it until they are crispy. Fathead dough is a combination of mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, and almond flour.
I’ve used this trio of ingredients to make my keto Taco Bell Mexican Pizza and low-carb Philly Cheesesteak Bites.
I used a few more baking ingredients to make these tortilla chips – xanthan gum (to help the ingredients stick together), baking powder (to give it the perfect texture), and the ingredients for the churro toppings.
Churro Chips
If you have ever had churros before, then you can probably already imagine the flavors in your mind. To keep these chips keto-friendly, I used Swerve granulated sweetener. I do not suggest using any other kind of sweetener because it will give you a different taste and mouth feel.
Liquid sweeteners won’t taste like the same churros you remember. Vanilla extract enhances all the flavors and brings out the spiciness in the cinnamon. Trust me, use real butter.
If you are dairy-free, use ghee or clarified butter. Either way, the butter really ties everything together.
Keto Cinnamon Chips
One of the best things about these keto churro chips is that you can make a really big batch of them and keep them in your pantry. They will stay fresh at room temperature for about one week.
I suggest storing them in an airtight container or a bag that seals completely.
Keto Cheesecake Dip
These keto churro chips are the perfect thing to serve at a fiesta-themed party or for Cinco de Mayo. Don’t forget to make the cheesecake dip to go along with them! The chips are the ideal size and shape for dipping.
The cheesecake dip is incredibly simple to make. Just use an electric mixer to whip together the cream cheese, whipping cream, sweetener, and vanilla. You can sprinkle some cinnamon on top if you want the dip to match the churro chips.
