These cheesy mini Philly cheesesteak bites are made with flaky fathead dough. There are only 4 grams net carbs in each one.
Is Philly Cheesesteak Keto
If you order a Philly cheesesteak from a restaurant, it is ket0-friendly only if you get it without the hoagie roll. The bread is what makes a Philly cheesesteak not keto-friendly.
Classic Philly cheesesteak is made with thinly sliced ribeye steak, cheese, and onions. Some places add grilled peppers to the onions. Others will make it with sliced roast beef deli meat.
There are a lot of variations of it out there, but the basic combination of meat, cheese, and veggies is a low-carb lunch idea for anyone on a keto diet.
Keto Philly Cheesesteak
In order to make this sandwich keto-friendly, I made my own low-carb dough made from the classic fathead dough recipe. I’ll talk more about that dough later on in this post.
Then, I used the same traditional Philly cheesesteak filling – onion, bell pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. To save yourself time, just buy frozen cheesesteak meat. It is already cooked seasoned and sliced perfectly thin.
You can use any type of cheese that you want. To really make these bites extra cheese, I used cream cheese. Mozzarella cheese is the next best thing if you don’t have cream cheese.
If you enjoy all the flavors of Philly cheesesteaks, then you have to make this keto Philly cheesesteak soup. It’s thick, creamy, and will make your pallet dance! I like to eat it for lunch on cold days because it really warms me up.
Mini Philly Cheesesteak Bites
Even though you can totally make these into sandwiches, I wanted to make bite-sized cheesesteak pockets. This way, they are a mess-free way to enjoy this cheesy recipe.
I also love that they are easy for me to portion out and control. Since each cheesesteak bite has 4 grams net carbs, I know exactly how many to eat to stay within my macros.
If you have kids, I suggest making a double batch. They are so delicious that your kiddos are going to want to eat some too – and they won’t even know they are eating their veggies.
If you are going to eat these for dinner, serve them with scalloped turnips. For lunch, I suggest making a keto cobb salad on the side.
Keto Fathead Dough
Fathead dough is an amazing creation! It’s a combination of mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, egg, almond flour, and a few other baking ingredients and seasonings. The end result is a flaky bread-like dough that resembles delicious dinner rolls.
I have used it quite a bit! It’s the perfect base for my keto Taco Bell Mexican pizza. It’s also flaky enough to make the best keto bagel bites. Fill the fathead dough with spiced meat and you have amazing low-carb empanadas.
Philly Cheesesteak Appetizers
These little appetizers are perfect at parties! Place them on a tray and watch them disappear. They are so cheesy and flavorful that you don’t even have to set out a dip or anything for them.
I love to make them ahead for parties or save them for my meal planning. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I prefer to reheat them in the oven or air fryer because it keeps them crispy.
If you reheat them in the microwave, the breading might become a bit too soft.
