With only 1g net carbs per serving, this keto-deviled ham salad is a wonderful way to use leftover baked ham in a creamy salad.
What Is Deviled Ham
I took my favorite deviled egg salad and added ham to it – now you have deviled ham salad!
There is something else called deviled ham, and I need to give it some attention really quick – just to let you know how my recipe is different.
Deviled ham is a canned meat product produced by the William Underwood Company. It’s basically made up of ground ham and a bunch of spices. The label calls it deviled ham spread because, unlike Spam, it has a creamy texture that you can spread on crackers.
It’s a southern staple and used it a lot in sandwiches and appetizers.
Is Deviled Ham Keto-Friendly
This is a two-part question. First, I’ll tell you about the Underwood deviled ham. Yes, Underwood deviled ham spread is keto-friendly, as long as you don’t mind eating 20% of your daily value of sodium at one time.
About 1/2 a can of deviled ham only has 1g net carbs. Be careful with it though, because the ham in the can is high in salt and it was cured in brown sugar.
My deviled ham salad uses baked ham steaks that are diced up and added to my favorite deviled egg salad recipe. My salad is completely keto-friendly since one serving only has 1g net carbs.
Keto Deviled Ham Salad
If you enjoy deviled eggs – including my deviled egg salad – then you will really enjoy this! It’s a fantastic way to use leftover holiday ham. You can also chop up unsweetened ham lunch meat and use it or fry up some ham steaks. The choice is up to you.
Just add the chopped ham to some hard-boiled eggs, onions, celery, and your favorite mayonnaise-based dressing. If you want it to have a bit more spice, use spicy brown mustard instead of Dijon, and throw in some chopped jalapenos too!
Just like with other creamy salad recipes – like this jalapeno popper chicken salad – it tastes the best when you make and serve it fresh. It will maintain its taste and texture in the refrigerator for up to three days. Store it in an airtight container so it lasts as long as possible.
How To Make Deviled Ham
There are a few things you can do to make sure this is the best-tasting low-carb deviled ham salad you have ever enjoyed! First, make sure the ham is cut into bite-sized pieces. In fact, the smaller the better. It’s easier to eat that way.
Then, you can either spread this on your favorite low-carb bread or wrap or serve it on top of a large piece of lettuce.
In my recipe, you’ll notice that I made it really creamy by pulsing all the ingredients in a food processor. This step is optional. If you want it to be a chunky salad with lots of texture, then just toss everything together with the salad dressing and eat it with a fork.
Deviled Ham Spread – Homemade Keto Version
If you mix everything together and puree it with a food processor, you’ll have your very own homemade deviled ham spread! It’s fun party food. Garnish with some fresh parsley and set it out with sliced cucumber and celery sticks.
It’s smooth enough to eat as a sandwich too. I like to add it on top of a large slice of cheese and wrap it up like a tortilla. It’s creamy and so full of zesty flavor too!
