Keto Beef Stroganoff
What are your favorite things about German food? For me, it is all about the sauces! I love the salty, savory, creamy sauce – and I replicated that sauce in this recipe. It’s an easy skillet meal with ground beef in a rich stroganoff sauce; all served on top of your favorite low-carb pasta.
This recipe uses familiar ingredients, so your kids will enjoy it too, even if they haven’t had German food before. It’s more of a German-inspired recipe than an authentic recipe.
Keto Ground Beef Stroganoff
You don’t have to use ground beef. You can make this recipe with thin, tender strips of sirloin steak. If you prefer the ease and texture of ground meat, then use ground turkey.
Ground chicken can also work, but you will have to use a bit more garlic since chicken is very bland meat.
You should always use full-fat sour cream and cream cheese when you cook keto recipes. Low-fat versions will have less flavor. Plus, when you are on the keto diet, you need as much healthy fats as possible. This keeps your body in fat-burning mode.
What To Eat With Beef Stroganoff
If you have a favorite bowl of soup or side salad, add it to the table. Since this ground beef stroganoff is rich and creamy, it tastes really good with almost any side dish that you cook.
For a simple side dish, fry up these garlic squash and zucchini. They have lots of the same flavors and ingredients as the stroganoff. Save some of the creamy gravy from your stroganoff and add it on top of your mashed cauliflower. For a burst of color and flavor, add some keto basil pesto flatbread.
Sauerkraut is naturally low-carb and is a must whenever you cook German food.
Best Keto Noodles
For this recipe, I used a can of palmini linguine noodles. Drain them and rinse them off, then heat them up with the sauce. They have such a mild flavor that you’ll just taste the sauce and not the noodles.
Traditionally, beef stroganoff is served on top of flat egg noodles. Use your favorite small and flat keto noodles. Be careful when you buy noodles. Just because it says “cauliflower noodles” or “gluten-free” doesn’t mean it is low-carb.
Read the ingredients and nutrition label and make sure it will fit in with your macros.
Shirataki noodles are popular with keto dieters. Miracle Noodle Fettucini noodles are also really easy to prepare and have a similar texture to wheat noodles.
Can You Freeze Beef Stroganoff
Yes, you can freeze this beef stroganoff recipe. It’s a fantastic way to make it ahead of time. Just make this recipe and then let it cool completely. After it is cooled down, place it in a freezer-friendly food storage bag. Freeze it flat.
It will last about six months in the freezer. When you are ready to eat it again, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight before heating it back up in a skillet.
