This recipe is all you need for a filling dinner for your entire family. It’s one of my favorite low-carb substitutes for recipes like spaghetti. With the cabbage in it, this Italian beef recipe is an entire meal in one skillet.
As it simmers and all the flavors combine together, you’ll smell the aromas and wish for it to speed up! This is one of those recipes that you can alter and change as you go. You don’t have to follow the instructions meticulously. In fact, it’s better when you add your own twist!

Keto Italian Beef
I used ground beef to make keto Italian beef. If you want to cut back on red meat, you can make this dish with ground turkey, chicken, or sausage. If you use ground turkey or chicken, add a little bit more salt so that the meat has a bit more flavor.
You can also make Italian beef with steak. If you use steak, I suggest cutting it into small pieces so that it cooks completely and isn’t tough.
My favorite thing about this recipe is the savory marinara sauce. Always read your ingredient labels before you buy the marinara sauce. Only use sauce that has no added sugar in it. My favorite is from Rao’s homemade or Simply Ragu. These two brands make marinara sauce with just tomatoes, oil, and spices.
Is Italian Beef Keto-Friendly?
Yes, Italian beef is perfectly keto-friendly, as long as you use a sugar-free marinara sauce. If you follow my recipe exactly, there are only 5 grams net carbs in each serving.
This Italian beef recipe is fantastic for your meal prep. The beef and cabbage noodles will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to a week. Just store it in an airtight food storage container.
What To Serve With Italian Beef
Since this Italian beef recipe tastes a lot like classic spaghetti and noodles, I suggest serving it with some low-carb garlic bread. This recipe would also taste perfect with some keto rosemary dinner rolls. There are a lot of similar herbs and spices in both the rolls and the Italian beef.
I love eating green beans with Italian recipes like this one. My keto bacon green beans would taste divine with this meal. If you want to add more vegetables to the table, serve this with my copycat Olive Garden chopped salad. The Italian dressing tastes authentic!
How To Make Cabbage Noodles
Cabbage is one of my favorite vegetables to cook because it is so easy. To make the noodles, just slice the cabbage into thin strips and then cook it. That’s really it!
You can also replace the cabbage noodles with your favorite low-carb noodles. Palmini linguini noodles are a fantastic replacement. Or serve this Italian beef on top of spaghetti squash or even zucchini noodles.

Ingredients:
Ground beef
Cabbage cut into thin strips like noodles
Olive oil
Medium onion
Low carb marinara sauce
Minced garlic
Chopped fresh basil for garnish
Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper
Instructions:
Add the oil to a skillet over medium high heat.
Place the meat and onions in the skillet, and saute until the onions soften and the meat is cooked through. Drain any excess oil or fat.
Stir in the garlic, Italian seasoning and salt and pepper to taste, and saute another minute.
Reduce the heat to medium low, and mix in the cabbage and marinara sauce. Stir to combine.
Cover the skillet, and simmer until the cabbage has softened.
Serve garnished with fresh chopped basil.
