Are Smoothies Keto
Yes, smoothies can fit into a low-carb or keto diet. The trick is that you have to only use a small amount of fruit. Also, instead of sugar or honey, sweeten it with a sugar substitute.
Smoothies from restaurants or juice bars are probably not keto-friendly. If you make a smoothie at home, you can control how much sugar you use and the types of ingredients that are in it.
Keto Smoothie Recipe
This keto smoothie recipe is perfectly sweet and creamy. It tastes like dessert but has enough protein in it to be a healthy way to start the day. It’s also a perfect post-workout snack, with enough natural sugar to reenergize you after exercising.
Whenever you make a keto smoothie, remember to check the labels of all ingredients you use. Make sure they are low-carb. For example, use unsweetened almond milk instead of sweetened. The same is true for Greek yogurt. Don’t use sweetened yogurt.
If you use vanilla almond milk, you probably don’t have to add more vanilla.
Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothie
Even though I called this a strawberry cheesecake smoothie, it doesn’t have any cream cheese in it. Instead of cream cheese, I used plain Greek yogurt.
I think the Greek yogurt gives it a smoother texture. Cream cheese is far too thick and rich.
For a little fun, you can even drizzle it with a little sugar-free chocolate syrup. Now it will taste like chocolate-dipped strawberries. Yum!
This smoothie tastes the best when it is fresh. You can store it in the refrigerator for a few hours, but not overnight. The next day the ingredients might separate a bit.
Keto Strawberry Smoothie
Strawberries are keto-friendly as long as you control how many you eat. There are 7.9 grams net carbs in a cup of strawberries. I only used 1/2 a cup of strawberries in this smoothie and was able to keep the carb count at 6 grams net carbs per glass.
If you want to take your smoothie on the go, you can grab a homemade keto granola bar. Now you have the perfect portable breakfast or snack that will keep you in ketosis and feeling full between meals.
You can also prep this smoothie ahead and speed up the process. Blend the strawberries, sweetener, and Greek yogurt together. Then, pour this mixture into an ice cube tray. Now all you have to do is grab the cubes, put them in the blender with some vanilla and ice and puree it together.
Best Sweetener For Smoothies
Whenever I make smoothies, I like to use a liquid sugar substitute. I think it blends into the rest of the ingredients seamlessly and doesn’t affect the texture.
You can use any kind of sweetener that you have. I suggest you don’t use a confectioner’s sugar substitute because it will alter the texter a bit too much.
