Get crafty and make this adorable easy scarecrow craft with the kids! It’s perfect for the fall season, Halloween, and Thanksgiving! Scroll for the easy tutorial and the easy free template you can print out below!
This year will be Lauren’s first time actually walking around and trick or treating with us! The kids LOVE the whole trick or treating process and it’s a tradition for us to walk around our entire neighborhood.
We haven’t really settled on final costume choices. Right now Olivia wants to be a ballerina, Joseph wants to be a doctor, and Lauren wants to be a kitty cat. I’ll wait till the last minute to buy anything because I know they’ll change their minds more than once before the big day!
In the meantime, we’ve been getting a head start on Halloween crafts! This scarecrow craft is too cute, and the kids got a kick out of using scraps of fabric or clothing we no longer use to dress the scarecrow! So much fun!

Instructions for making a Halloween scarecrow craft
Step 1
Collect a scrap fabric piece and cut out a piece of the fabric to make the shirt of the scarecrow. I’m using a 6 inches x 4 inches blue and white checked printed fabric for the shirt.
Step 2
Fold the long side of the fabric into half.
Step 3
Cut the folded fabric into a shirt layout; with sleeves on both open sides and cutting a round piece from the closed-end for inserting the scarecrow’s neck.
Step 4
Cut out 2 strips and a trousers layout from a scrap jeans fabric. Or simply cut a rectangular-shaped jeans fabric and cut a long slit along the middle, lengthwise.
Step 5
Fold the 2 sides of the slit and apply fabric glue or stitch to secure the fold
Step 6
Cut a piece of burlap fabric to make the hat of the scarecrow. Cut the burlap into any pattern you’d prefer to make a cone shaped hat.
Step 7
Fold the burlap fabric cutout to form a cone shape and use fabric glue or stitch to secure the cone pattern.
Step 8
Cut a round piece of cardstock paper and attach the eyes and nose from the provided template. Use a black sharpie to draw the mouth of the scarecrow. Attach yarn strands on the top side of the head for the hair.
Step 9
Take 2 popsicle sticks; 1 long and 1 short. Attach the short one with the long popsicle stick by forming a cross. Place the short popsicle stick relatively towards a side of the long popsicle stick.
Step 10
Insert the shirt through the shorter end of the long popsicle stick.
Step 11
Place the shirt nicely on the scarecrow. Now place and glue the jeans trousers on the below the shirt but overlapping the shirt a little on its bottom end.
Step 12
Place the 2 jeans strips over the shoulders, on both sides and overlap the front parts with the trousers. Place and glue 2 buttons on the overlapped parts of the trousers and strips
Step 13
Attach the cardstock head and the burlap hat to complete the recycled scarecrow.
And done!
Pin for later!
