We all have them, that one picky eater who refuses to eat anything you put on their plate. Almost all my kids are finicky with what they what they eat, but thankfully, they do like to at least taste everything (click here for my kids favorite summer recipe), which makes it fun to introduce them to different kinds of food throughout their days. We’ve just finished moving into our new home and to say it was exhausting is a huge understatement. The kids and I were all sick throughout the process, and it made keeping to their routine a little more difficult on all of us. Thankfully this isn’t my first, and it’s probably not my last time moving, and we managed to get by.
Five easy ways to get your picky eater to eat
One of the struggles we’ve had throughout our move was with our little picky eaters diet. With all the pots and pans in boxes, our options we were limited to takeout for a couple of days. Most kids would probably enjoy that, but my kids are accustomed to a home cooked meal, and anything other than that for dinner usually creates a big fuss.

Although, I am grateful they settled for some microwavable food picks along with a glass of their favorite NESTLÉ® NIDO®. We got it all from my local Walmart that is conveniently open 24 hours a day! In my experience in raising seven kids, if you approach everything with consistency, and understanding your picky eater will be just fine! Below are a few of my tried and true ways that help get my pick eaters to eat.

Have a regular meal routine. During our move there was few times where I had to work and leave daddy (he’s got the routine down just as good as I do) and their grandparents in charge. Even when I’m away, I make sure everyone knows mine and sticks to their routine. It doesn’t have to be exactly as I do it, but the timing and environment is important. Set the mood. Try soothing music or songs they know and love. This makes eating something they looking forward to. Growing up, meals were para la familia and it was fun!
As hard as it may be, hold off on prepping a different meal for your little ones. This will only promote their pickiness because the know you will give in and make something different. Like my abuela always would say, “deja eso nino trankilo cuando le de la hambre eyo van comer”.

Be flexible and respect the fact that they may just not want to eat at that moment and instead offer an alternative like a glass of NIDO. NIDO 1+ contains vitamins and minerals which help support healthy growth and development with a delicious honey taste kids love!

Last but not least: Include them in the food shopping process. While at grocery store, allow them to pick out fruits and vegetable they’d like to eat along with picking their NIDO.
