Every weekend when I was growing up I was rustled from bed by the loud beats of salsa music blaring from the living room. I instantly knew it was cleaning time! Sometimes I would catch my mom dancing away to her favorite song with the mop or broom and I just shook my head and ran because if she caught me I’d be dancing right along with her. Now if I didn’t wake myself up and get moving my mom would inevitably come knocking on my door saying “oye tu vas a dormer todo el dia?” It was rare that I slept in because the combination of music and smell of lavender Fabuloso® (the multi purpose cleaner my mom always used) would be enough motivation for me to get up. It became a scent that will always remind me of those Saturday’s in Brooklyn. I love it!
Now that I’m a mom I’ve kept the tradition going. I don’t necessarily wake up at the crack of dawn and I need a little more than music and Fabuloso® to wake me up but my Saturday mornings are still filled with music, dancing and of course Fabuloso®. To be honest cleaning for me is therapeutic and the lavender scent that fill my house afterwards not only is soothing but it also makes me feel like I’m back in Brooklyn. My kids have come to know and love the scent as well. Whenever they smell it they wake up and immediately say “what’s my chore for the day?”

I may not be the best cleaner or the most organized but over the years I have managed to find little ways to keep my house guest ready. It’s important with five kids to keep a house manageable to avoid what could be a fun visit from my family looking for some cafecito turning into a nightmare.
1. Baskets: I have tons and tons of baskets that are clearly labeled and kept in specific spots. If any particular room is getting out of hand I dump everything into those bins and worry about sorting them out later. It clears the mess and it’s still contained – it’s a win win!
2. Scent: The way my house smells is everything to me! I believe that the first thing people notice when they walk through your door is a scent and we all know that first impressions are everything. For this I’ve always counted on Fabuloso® . Fabuloso® is a all purpose cleaner that makes cleaning a breeze! I always buy mine at Walmart; it’s available in a few different scents like the Limited Edition Spring Bloom but my favorite is the soothing Lavender.
I always buy a few bottles at Walmart (who conveniently stocks them in the center aisle) so that I can keep some in spray bottles to spot clean the floors on busy days. Fabuloso is so affordable that I always gets carried away and buy a few bottles. Spot cleaning floors with a spray bottle will ensure that your floors are always clean and smell fresh without taking up too much of your time.
3. Wash dishes immediately after using them: This is not something that was easy to incorporate at first in my house but it was easily remedied by having the kids alternate the big loads of dishes that they accumulated when they left dishes for later. Kids quickly realized that one dish is a lot easier than a sink full. Try it. Trust me it works.
4. Invest in a cordless vacuum: Vacuuming use to be a task that I absolutely hated. Pulling out a big vacuum and fighting with cords just made the chore lengthier than it had to be. I made the best purchase when I bought a cordless that I keep in the living room closet. I must vacuum three times a day and my rug is always in tip top shape.
5. Drinks & Snacks: Whenever I open the door and invite someone in I immediately offer them a drink and pull out a plate of cheese and crackers. if I head out food shopping I always add a little something for the unexpected guest or last minute dinner guest. I’m way to busy to be running out to the store so keeping my fridge well stocked is extremely important.
If your Walmart is like mine then you can findFabuloso® in the end cap near the cleaning supply section. If not then make sure you check out the all purpose cleaning section for a full selection of Fabuloso®.

While it’s important to keep your house in good shape it doesn’t have to be perfect. A tidy house with the right ambiance and scent can appear a lot cleaner than it really is. So focus on having fun and enjoying your guest. How do you keep your house guest ready?

It took me a long time to get into the wash dishes immediately habit, but it makes me feel so much better and yep, it makes it easy for guests. Scent is a great idea too!
My house never seems to be guest ready. But I do like the Fabuloso for washing my floors!
Great tips. I have no problem in cleaning the house, my problem is with the dishes lol #client
These are all great tips! I really struggle with washing dishes right after I use them but I’m going to work on that one! Thanks for inspiring me to get my house ready for Spring and SUmmer!
My mother is a fabulous hostess, and she completely follows all of these tips. I’m trying, but keeping after the kids and all of their stuff can be challenging!
I have never tried this brand of cleaning products. I’ll look for them the next time I go shopping.
These look like great cleaning products. I always am looking for something new scent wise to try with cleaning, and these look like scents I might like!
