I Gave My Son $100 To Spend on Amazon and This Is What He Bought!
I’m a big shopper, I always have been. It took me a really long time to learn how to properly budget my money and spend wisely. I started working at a young age and you best believe I spent every dime just as quickly as I made it! My mom of course encouraged me to save my money, but I was a hard-headed teenager and never listened. Now as a mom of seven, I’m thrilled that I have options on Amazon where you can add a teen 13 -17 to your account and allow them to shop through their own login. Teens can log in and use the Amazon App anytime and anywhere they want. It’s a great way to allow teens the freedom to place orders on their own (that are then approved or denied by parents), because it promotes not only independence, but money management as well. How does it work? This convenient new program gives teens the freedom to explore Amazon from their own login. They can search and find things they want or need, and even place the order on the Amazon App from their own devices. Parents will then receive an email or text, displaying the item the teen chose, cost of the item, shipping address and payment information (they can even personalize a note that says “prom shoes or school supplies”). Parents are then able to approve their teens purchase via text, or they can visit the order page for more details. You also have the option of skipping the approval process and instead set a pre-approved spending limit. Parents will always receive notifications for every order and you can cancel or return any item in accordance with Amazon’s policies. I gave William a $100 spending budget. The timing was perfect since it was his birthday! We tested out Amazon’s new way for teens to shop ourselves and, just like every other service that Amazon offers, it’s super easy to navigate and use! I had William initiate the entire process, and sent him to Amazon.com/forteens link. He was then prompted to send me a link to authorize and approve his login, choose what payment method he would use to shop, and the option to set a spending limit that makes sense for our family. These are all very easy steps to follow that are completed within minutes. I gave my son $100 to spend on Amazon and the following is what he bought – not bad! 🙂
After the initial set up, the next step was to shop! William kept it really simple and went directly to something he’s been eyeing; a pocket guitar so he can practice playing the guitar on the go (it’s just as cool as it looks and sounds). He added it to his cart and ordered it under his $100 spending limit. This option as I mentioned before can also be set up for prior approval. I love that he knew exactly what he wanted. And the best part is that he didn’t feel the need to spend the entire $100 (he said he’ll leave it there for a pair of sneakers).

All in all, this is a fun way to promote independence amongst teens and teach them to shop on their own, all while parents stay in the know! **FYI – An adult Amazon customer can add up to four teens ages 13-17 to their account for free!
**Included: Parents who have a Prime membership can share select benefits with their teen at no additional cost, including: • Prime Shipping: Unlimited fast, Free Two-Day Shipping on more than 50 million items • Prime Video: Unlimited access to tens of thousands of movies and TV shows • Twitch Prime: In-game loot on Twitch and 20 percent off most pre-release boxed games.

I love Amazon! I have been a Prime member for years. I think this is great and would come in very handy for my 2 youngest kids. My daughter loves to shop on Amazon too so I know she will like this.
