~ Getting It All Done With Quaker State ~

Having a car back when I was little in Brooklyn was a luxury that a lot of people didn’t have, but because we had the trains and buses or la wawa, like a typical nuyorican would call it, we still managed to get around the city. It required a little more time management and it took a lot longer but it got us where we needed to go.

It wasn’t until my dad got transferred to a job in New Jersey that we finally gave in and bought a car. It was a dream! All the places that once took all day to get to by train was now a fun car ride away. We blasted salsa on La Mega, grabbed some White Castle, and we were good to go. One major thing I remember about my family’s first car was how shocked I was when I heard my mom wanted to learn how to drive. Sure I had seen girls driving around the block but it wasn’t the norm like it is now because New York had so many different modes of transportations. For the most part we were always within our neighborhood, so if my mom had to take us to the doctor she grabbed a cab and always walked it to go buy some compra (que dios la bendiga I couldn’t handle that). It was so cool to see my mom pull out of a parking spot and I remember how happy I was that she got her license, it was a sign of accomplishment and independence  that has left a huge impression me.

Our household was your typical hispanic household, where my dad took care of all things that had to do with the car, but when my mom got her license, I noticed that he tried to explain how important an oil change was and even took us with him to get it changed. I remember thinking it was so much fun to go get an oil change. Fast forward to now as an independent mom who owns her own car, it wasn’t until I moved near a Walmart that was I able to actually look forward to getting my cars oil change with again Quaker State. Also, I get to shop while I wait. It doesn’t get any better than that!

Believe it or not, for a while we were a one car family too, just like it was when I was growing up. It was a brand new car that I adored, but I had to wait until my husband got home with it to run errands. While it was economical, it was a total inconvenience, so I bought myself a big truck that fit all the kids. Since I’m a work at home mom to five boys (and a little girl on the way), my truck plays a crucial part in getting what most of what I need done in a timely matter. There’s school drop offs, pick ups, after school activities, compra to buy, and sometimes even business meet ups for my blog. If it wasn’t for my truck, I wouldn’t get half the stuff done. On the weekends, we wouldn’t be able to go to our favorite sunflower farms or outlets. The independence that my truck gives me has allowed me to appreciate it and try to take better care of it so that it lasts for many years to come, or at least until I can hand it off to one of my boys so they can help run some errands.

I can handle maintaining my tires by myself, but my truck will always need oil changes in order to run well, so it’s nice to know that my truck is in good hands with the super helpful and patient Walmart ACC workers (Joseph was having a meltdown and the guys just smiled and even handed him a lollipop).

They make it as easy as possible. I simply head on over to their motor oil section, grab a bottle of Quaker State oil (we use Defy – High Mileage Motor Oil  because I’ve racked up the miles on my truck) hand it to them, and they change the oil as well as alert me of any other problems they might happen to notice. They even put up a friendly reminder sticker on my windshield.
