These ham and cheese chaffle sticks are the perfect thing to pack in your lunch! Or, enjoy them as a savory breakfast.
What are Chaffles
The word chaffle combines two words – cheese and waffles. Lots of people on the ketogenic diet enjoy using chaffles as a replacement for bread. They are pretty simple to make and most types of chaffles only have a handful of ingredients.
Ham and Cheese Chaffle
Instead of making plain chaffles and then layer ham and cheese on top, I wanted to make a chaffle that has the ham and cheese baked into it. This makes the chaffle a lot more portable (and reminds me a bit of a Hot Pocket!).
These simple chaffles are the perfect lunch solution for anyone on the keto diet. They taste delicious hot or cold and only have 2 grams net carbs each!
Plus, they only take 15 minutes to make. So, you can make your chaffles for lunch, even if you don’t have very long to eat. This is one of my favorite things to make on crazy days when I almost forget to eat.
Kids love them too! If you are trying to cut out how much processed sugar your kids eat, these are a really quick and healthy lunch solution.
Best Waffle Maker For Chaffles
If you are going to start making chaffles part of your meal prep routine, I suggest investing in a mini waffle maker. When you make chaffles in a full-size or belgian waffle maker, the texture will not turn out right.
In fact, the mixture might even stick to the maker and it will come out way too thin.
Making chaffles in a mini waffle maker is the perfect solution. They come out fluffy and thick and the perfect size for sandwiches or lunch.
What To Eat With Chaffles
These chaffles are filled with unsweetened ham and melted cheese, so they are a fantastic source of protein. In order to make it a complete meal, you should add some kind of vegetable or salad on the side.
This keto cobb salad with berries will taste incredible with your chaffle – and it packs well in your lunch too.
I’m a huge fan of potato salad, so a serving of keto cauliflower potato salad would also taste delicious with these chaffle sticks. Of course, this keto spinach artichoke salad is another way to boost your nutrition and your fiber at the same time.
How To Store Chaffles
These chaffles will work in your meal prep, but you should eat them soon in order to enjoy them at their best. Store leftover ham and cheese chaffles in an airtight food storage container or bag and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Then, either preheat them in the microwave or toaster oven or just eat them cold.
