Keto Breakfast Chaffle
One of my favorite keto breakfast inventions is the chaffle. It’s basically a waffle made out of cheese and usually doesn’t have any flour in it. The amazing thing is how perfectly it cooks when you use a mini waffle maker!
Instead of a sweet waffle, this bacon, egg, and cheese chaffle is savory. It comes out crispy and tastes like everything you love about breakfast!
Easy Chaffle Ideas
There are literally just 3 ingredients in this chaffle if you don’t count the toppings. That’s it! Just mix together some mozzarella cheese, one egg, and a few tablespoons of bacon. Then, place this in a mini waffle maker and cook until it is nice and crispy.
There are lots of ways you can make chaffles. This breakfast-themed one is very savory, but I have made some sweeter ones that tasted like dessert. If you have a sweet tooth, try my sugar-free churro chaffle. It tastes so much like a churro that you won’t believe it is low-carb!
Another idea is to just make a basic chaffle and use it like bread for things like low-carb sandwiches.
Best Keto Breakfast Chaffle
This recipe comes together really quickly. After you mix the batter, just fry it in a mini waffle maker and then add your toppings – then it’s time to eat!
What about freezing the batter? Does that save time? Since you are only mixing together 3 ingredients, I wouldn’t suggest freezing the batter. It will take just as long to thaw the frozen batter as it does to mix a brand new one.
The chaffles themselves can be frozen, however! Flash freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet. After each one is completely frozen, you can place them in a sealed plastic freezer bag. When you are ready for another chaffle, just pop it into the toaster!
If you want to use these breakfast chaffles for meal prep, I suggest storing them in a zippered storage bag in the refrigerator. Then, you can reheat it on a skillet, or just eat it cold. I like the skip the toppings and just eat them as I run out the door!
How To Make Chaffles Crispy
- Lots of people ask why their chaffles are too soft. I understand – I prefer a crispy chaffle too! If your chaffle isn’t crispy enough, there are a couple of things you can try.
- First, put it in the toaster on one of the lowest settings. This should make it a nice, golden brown.
- The oven’s broiler is another way to make the chaffles crispy. Just keep a really close eye on them, and use the low setting so they don’t burn.
- Other people like to just heat up some oil in a pan and pan-fry the chaffles for a second or two on each side until they are perfectly crispy.
This is a classic keto breakfast in the form of a chaffle! Top it with all your favorite breakfast toppings – green onions or more bacon, or even some sausage crumbles.
Have fun with it and customize it with different breakfast meat and cheese. Use pepperjack if you want it to have a bit of spice!
