Raising Five Boys: Crying It Out

For the last three months I’ve been walking around like a zombie on three to four hours of sleep. I’ve created a little sleep monster with Joseph by rocking him every single time he woke up ever since he was born. Yes I, the tough guy who used the CIO (cry it out) method with all five of my boys became a softy with little Joseph and now it’s a full blown problem for me. I wake up feeling as if I was up partying all night and I spend my days hyper from all the caffeine that I drink. This week was probably the worst and I decided to finally put my foot down and let him cry it out for my sanity, Franklyn’s sanity and more importantly Joseph, who needs to get his sleep.
Last night was our first night letting him cry it out. It worked the first two times he woke up but when he woke up at four in the morning I gave in and rocked him back to sleep but this time he fought that too. It took me 30 minutes to get him back to sleep and by then I was wide awake and could not go back to sleep. So I got my phone and started answering some emails and started my new workout routine that requires me to get right out of bed and work out! Besides the terrible timing, I actually felt productive and energized after my run. Let’s see how I feel after I start cooking and Joseph starts to get cranky because he running on little sleep too!
I’m going to stop now because I’m started to sound like a whiny complainer when the truth is I love my crazy hectic life! I just need some sleep to be able to keep up with all of it. In the meantime, I just thank god there’s coffee.
