Now that Halloween is over it’s time for me to get focused for the busy holiday season ahead. All of the boys have tons of social events to attend, gifts that need to be bought, decoartions to put up and it’s my baby’s first Christmas. Luckily I’m a tad OCD which helps stay organized and making every minute count. I know I’m not the only working mom out there so I figured I’d share some of my tips and hope you guys will share your as well.
1. On the last day of every month I make a list of everything I need to do and when they need to get done by. I break it down by the week and if it invloves shopping I also include my budget. Breaking it down lightens the load and gives me a more attainable time frame but more importanlty it helps me avoid procrastination.
2. I know that I can do anything but I also know that I cannot do everything so I assign little to do lists for just about everyone in my house. These are not chores – these are things that will need to be done every single day so that the house doesnt fall apart during busy times.
3. I would love to say that I wake up at the crack of dawn to get work done before Joseph wakes up but I don’t. Instead I take sunday mornings and do most of the work for the upcoming week. If I’m feeling inspired I can usually knock out a full week worth of work (not including emails and other behind the scenes details). this frees up my days to be able to focus more on being a mommy. I know this is a luxury and most moms work outside the home but taking some time out on Sunday to make lunches or just focus on yourself can be equally productive.
The most important thing for me in making everything go smoothly is not sweating the small stuff. I live in a house with 5 boys and there will always be a mess; there’s always a spill and laundry to be done and put away (usually both at the same time) and that’s okay as long as the important stuff is being cared for.
