2014 was full of amazing first times for all of us. I started blogging on Stylish Cravings, I had Joseph in March, Evan graduated high school, got his first car and his first job, Franklyn switched jobs to have a more normal schedule, William got his driver’s permit, and Dylan started MMA (something I’m incredibly proud of). If i could give 2014 a one-word name it would be “change.” there was lots of adjustments and changes that were made and I’m very grateful to have learned so much. Below are three major things that 2014 taught me.
1. Less is more! Because we are a large family we’re always looking for ways to minimize clutter and maximize space. With the birth of Joseph I realized that I don’t need half of the garbage I had sitting in my closets and garage. Simplicity is something I’ve learned to love and need.
2. I can do anything but not everything. I spent the beginning of 2014 readjusting to life after 3 months of bed rest and that forced me to realize that even though I can do anything I can’t do everything. It’s a great reminder on days where i feel like I didn’t do enough for me, my boys or my job.
3. Sometimes you just have to let go. When Evan started driving a few months ago I demanded him to call me whenever he got to his destination. I was terrified of him driving and at the same time I was taking away the joy of his new found freedom because he was constantly having to remember to call me (annoying I know). As much as I hated it, I had to let go. It wasn’t only with Evan – I quickly realized that my petty fears were holding back a lot things in my life and relationships. my fears were not solving anything they were wasting my time and energy.
I don’t believe in New Year resolutions but I do believe in striving for better. Whether it’s to be a better version of myself, or a better mom, daughter and wife – my plan for 2015 is to keep improving and working on myself.
