~ Five Fun Ways To Get Your Kids To Drink More Water ~
I alway try my best to encourage my kids to drink lots and lots of water, especially since it’s always hot down here in Florida. Right now we’re in full on back-to-school mode. That means lots of after school activities, like sports, and a lot of time spent driving them back and forth. I have to be prepared to keep them hydrated at all times. In a survey* recently conducted by Nestle® Pure Life® , drinking water is one of the biggest “healthy habit” struggles moms have with their kids (38%), even more than struggles like “eat your fruit” (29%), “get enough exercise” (23%), and “eat your breakfast” (19%). It’s not always an easy task to get five boys to get their recommended eight glasses of water, but there are certain tricks that I’ve learned along the way to help keep them hydrated without them feeling forced.
Per Robin Plotkin, one of the best ways to keep kids hydrated is to prep ahead with a week’s worth of bottled water for lunches or on the go events. Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water is my choice. Store them in the freezer and remove them when needed to stock lunches, backpacks, or gym bags. The water will be ready to drink when your child is ready.
In my fridge you will also find other healthy options for kids. I believe that allowing kids to make their own decisions in drinking water, and in life, helps them feel in control. In my opinion, that is a healthy way to guide them into making the right decision.
In a survey* recently conducted by Nestlé® Pure Life®, kids who drink 4+ glasses of water per day are more likely to frequently exhibit healthy habits, such as getting their own water when thirsty, eating their fruits and vegetables at meal times without reminders, and requesting healthy food and beverage options for school lunches. I keep the bottles that we buy at Walmart stored in a cooler in my trunk along with a healthy snack or meal that they help pick so that even when we’re busy, we have a healthy option. According to 88% of moms surveyed*, water is the beverage their child most regularly drinks in the car. Make this a healthy habit by making sure that each child has a bottle of water in hand before they leave the house as well!
Another great tip from Robin includes keeping the kids motivated to drink more water by making it fun Try adding crazy straws or special cups.
When all else fails, I turn drinking water in a friendly competition by buying each of the boys their own package of Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water, and whoever drinks the most at the end of the week will get to ride shotgun for a week. Now I don’t know about you, but riding shotgun is a big deal in my house, so everyone ends up trying to out drink the other. Try it and you can thank me later.

My best tip is lead by example. Your children see you drinking water throughout the day they’re much more likely to do the same. We filter water constantly and have a SodaStream to turn our water into a tasty bubble a drink, by adding fresh squeezed lime, lemon, grapefruit, or any other fruits and spices that are girls might find enticing. Apple in ginger infused water is a super delicious treat this time of year

My daughter is 9. I always have a hard time getting her to drink water. Crazy straws always work!

Eliminating other options that are easy helped. Juice boxes are so easy to grab & fill up on.

We live in the desert so I am always pushing my boys to drink more water. They’re getting a little better about it, but they don’t like to take breaks from playing to actually do it!
