Made with tasty, crusty bread, this keto bread bowl recipe is the best comfort food – especially with cream of chicken soup.
Keto Crusty Bread
There is nothing like the pleasure of tearing off a piece of crusty bread and dipping it into your soup. I thought I was really going to miss this when I started the keto diet. Turns out you don’t have to give up bread when you are in ketosis!
You just have to buy (or make) low-carb bread out of keto-friendly ingredients.
In this post I am thrilled to share two easy recipes together. You’ll find my favorite keto bread bowl recipe and a recipe for keto cream of chicken soup, both in the printable recipe card at the bottom.
If you don’t want to make a bread bowl, you can use the same exact ingredients to make keto rolls or even pizza crust. It’s one of my favorite keto bread recipes because it is so versatile.
Keto Bread Bowl
Making a keto bread bowl is as easy as making yeast-free dinner rolls. Just mix all the ingredients together, bake them, and then let them cool. To turn them into bread bowls, use a pointy knife and cut the middle out of them, leaving enough bread in the bottom to hold the soup.
Set the top and middle of the bread bowl aside and use it to dip into your soup. You can even save the tops and middle and make your own homemade croutons for salad or French Onion soup.
Keto Bread
You definitely can have bread on the keto diet, as long as it is low-carb bread. There are a lot of different ways you can use these bread bowls too.
Make them smaller and serve them as dinner rolls. Brush them with butter and garlic for an incredibly aromatic and amazing flavor.
Or, slice the rolls in half and use them like keto hamburger buns. I love to serve them with my favorite low-carb burger recipe. Then just pile your favorite toppings on top of the burger and cheese.
Keto Bread Mozzarella
Another name for keto mozzarella bread is fathead dough. It’s a funny name but it basically means you made the bread with mozzarella cheese, almond flour, egg, and cream cheese. I’ve used this dough on other things before and it always turns out perfectly!
I always recommend shredding mozzarella cheese at home. The fresher the cheese, the better the bread will taste. You should also use full-fat cream cheese. Not only is it better for you, but it will give the bread the richest taste.
Whenever you bake, always use finely ground almond flour. Do not use almond meal. Almond meal is made by grinding up the entire almond – including the skin. This means it leaves a grainy texture behind, which isn’t good for bread or rolls.
Best Soup For Bread Bowls
I love to fill bread bowls with creamy soups. That’s why I included a recipe for cream of chicken soup at the bottom of this recipe card.
Keto bacon cheeseburger soup is another popular creamy soup to serve in your bread bowl. It really does taste like a cheeseburger. Or go classic and make keto tomato bacon soup. Sprinkle some fresh parsley on top for a bright green garnish.
