Indulge in this creamy and zesty tomato soup. It will warm you up from the inside out. The bacon toppings are optional, but the best part!
Is Tomato Soup Keto
Classic tomato soup is not usually keto-friendly. Some versions include added sugar, so watch out for that! My recipe has 6g net carbs in each serving.
If you are on the keto diet, be careful with how much you eat and make sure it fits in with the rest of your macros that day. It can fit, if you do it right and enjoy half a serving as a side dish with a filling and low-carb meal.
Tomato Bacon Soup
This tomato bacon soup reminds me of the tomato soup I used to eat whenever I was cold or feeling under the weather.
The bacon is optional, but I seriously suggest you don’t skip it! It adds a low-carb crunch and delightful saltiness to the sweet soup. I made this soup with a really surprising ingredient – low-carb marinara sauce. You’ll never believe how delicious this turns out!
I was nervous as I made it, because who eats marinara sauce as a soup? Well, I can tell you that it is amazing, especially with the tomato paste to thicken it up!
I used marinara sauce instead of tomato sauce or fresh tomatoes because this one swap cut the carbs down even lower. Tomatoes are delicious, but they have lots of natural sugars, so they aren’t the most keto-friendly fruit.
Tomato Bacon Soup Slow Cooker
I made this on the stove, but you can also throw all the ingredients in your Crockpot and let it cook all day.
It will be ready when you are. In fact, you can let it cook for 2-4 hours on high or 4-8 hours on low. It’s a really easy recipe to make in the slow cooker. I call it my “I don’t know what to make for dinner so I’ll make this” recipe.
Low-Carb Tomato Soup
The heavy whipping cream is what makes the tomato soup really creamy and rich. If you don’t have whipping cream, you can use regular whipping cream.
I don’t recommend trying to use canned coconut milk. Even though that is what most people use to replace heavy whipping cream, it will give your soup a distinct coconut taste.
I love how soon this is ready too! You can make it in just 30 minutes or less! From “what’s for dinner” to “dinner is ready” in less time than a sitcom. I love it!
What To Eat With Tomato Soup
Few things go as well with tomato soup as grilled cheese sandwiches! I have two grilled cheese recipes you should try with this tomato soup.
Keto pizza grilled cheese has pepperoni in it. My kids love this sandwich and I have to admit that I do too!
If you want a classic recipe, here is an easy keto grilled cheese recipe that you will enjoy! Use spicy pepper jack cheese for a little kick!
Tomato Soup Toppings
I love adding bacon on top of this soup. It’s the perfect topping! You can also add some pork rind crumbs – they mimick crackers or croutons.
Sliced jalapenos will make it taste a little spicy. I also like to garnish this soup with sliced green onions or chives. Sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese on top and it is ready to go!
