This keto hot dog casserole has a delicious low-carb breading that makes it tastes like the best corndog you’ve ever made!
Are Hot Dogs Keto
Whether hot dogs fit in with a keto lifestyle is a personal choice. Some people prefer not to eat processed meat – like hot dogs – while they are on a low-carb diet. Others just pay attention to their macros and as long as they stay within their numbers, they are happy.
If you don’t mind eating processed meats, then hot dogs can fit in with a keto diet. Always look at the nutrition label and make sure that the hot dogs you buy do not list sugar as an ingredient. If they are completely sugar-free, then they should be perfectly fine on keto.
Hot Dog Casserole
I honestly struggled with what to call this recipe. I wanted to call it a keto corndog casserole because that is pretty close to what it is. These are basically small pieces of hot dogs covered in a delicious low-carb cornbread.
Since hot dogs are the main ingredient, I named the recipe after them. This casserole has meat as the main ingredient, but I still think it should be served as a side dish. You could serve it for lunch along with a fresh broccoli salad too. You definitely need to serve this with veggies, since there aren’t any in this casserole.
Hot Dog Casserole Cornbread
Probably the best thing about this recipe is the cornbread. I love how buttery and cheesy it is – and it tastes perfect with the hot dogs sprinkled inside of it.
If you are hoping to save leftovers for your keto meal plan, I suggest using a different recipe instead (like keto peanut chicken). The hot dogs and the cornbread will all change texture the longer you keep them in the refrigerator. They will probably be just fine for about a day, but I don’t recommend trying to store them for longer than that.
Keto Hot Dog Casserole
This keto hot dog casserole is a very family-friendly recipe! I like to serve it with some keto chicken cordon bleu bites and keto cauliflower au gratin. Kids love cheesy veggies and that cauliflower recipe is the best!
If you are going to serve this for lunch, then just add some raw veggies and your favorite dip to the table and enjoy munching on some healthy food!
Keto Cornbread
I made the scrumptious cornbread out of almond flour, eggs, heavy whipping cream, and a few other baking ingredients. The result is something that really does taste just like cornbread! When you bake it, I suggest using almond flour instead of almond meal.
This is because almond meal has little bits of the nut skins in it, so the cornbread will taste grainier.
Save this recipe even if it is just for the cornbread! You can omit the hot dogs and just make the cornbread as a delicious side for southern dishes like keto cheesy chicken fritters. Or cut the cornbread into squares and serve it with your favorite low-carb chili recipe.
There are so many different recipes that taste delicious when you add cornbread.
I didn’t add any extra spices to the cornbread either. If you want, you can drizzle with ketchup or add some garlic powder and a dash of parsley for a little spice. I think it tastes amazing on its own.
