What Is New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp
This tangy recipe was made famous in New Orleans, Louisiana. It doesn’t have any BBQ sauce on it and you don’t grill it. Classic New Orleans shrimp is made with a tangy Worcestershire sauce and fried in a lot of butter!
A lot of classic recipes sweeten the sauce with sugar. To make my shrimp keto-friendly, I used Swerve brown sugar substitute because it caramelizes perfectly.
New Orleans BBQ Shrimp
You’ll find New Orleans BBQ shrimp recipes that cook the shrimp with the skin on and others that tell you to peel them first. I prefer to peel the shrimp first because I serve this recipe to my family and the little ones can eat the shrimp easier this way.
My recipe is also flavorful without being too spicy. Do you like a lot of heat? Then add more chili powder and a dash of cayenne pepper.
Low-Carb New Orleans BBQ Shrimp
One of the best things about this shrimp recipe is the tangy sauce. Reserve half of the sauce and use it for dipping. My kids love any meal that includes dips! I can’t blame them – dip really is a fun feature.
Shrimp cooks very quickly, so save this recipe for those busy weeknights when you don’t have time to cook. Just sautee the shrimp until they turn pink. The internal temperature of shrimp should reach 145F when it is safe to eat.
What To Serve With Shrimp
Serve some classic southern or French recipes with this New Orleans shrimp. First, you have to add a glass of keto sweet tea to the table! No southern recipe is complete without some sweet tea.
Of course, you can’t serve shrimp without some crab cakes! These keto crab cakes are gluten-free and still have the same crispy breading.
Since New Orleans has a French influence, a bowl of French onion soup is the perfect starter for this meal. Then, cut the salty and savory flavors with a sweeter keto strawberry pretzel salad. It has a delightful low-carb pretzel crust.
Pecan pie is a southern staple too, so serve a slice of keto pecan pie dump cake for dessert.
How To Store Cooked Shrimp
This New Orleans BBQ shrimp will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to four days. Keep it in an airtight container in the fridge. This is the perfect meal to make for your keto meal prep because there are so many different ways you can use this shrimp.
Add it on top of some zucchini noodles or inside a lettuce wrap.
