Refreshing and a southern favorite, this keto sweet tea is the perfect drink! Only three ingredients, you’ll never run out.
Keto Sweet Tea
Sweet tea is basically a staple of southern cuisine. You go to anyone’s home and they will have a jug of homemade sweet tea, ready to share. One of the most difficult things about living in the south while on the keto diet is giving up real sweet tea.
I finally perfected my recipe for real southern sweet tea that fits on the keto diet! It doesn’t have any funky aftertaste. The sweetness lingers on your tongue, refreshing you and filling your mouth with sweet flavors at the same time.
If you are going to host a dinner party, BBQ, or invite friends over, make a large jug of this keto sweet tea. They won’t be able to tell a difference!
Best Sugar Substitute For Sweet Tea
Here’s the secret. Any kind of granular or liquid sugar substitute will work in this sweet tea recipe. The key is to add the sugar substitute while the water is still pretty hot.
If you add it to cold water, it won’t dissolve as well and could just gather at the bottom of the pitcher.
To make 2 quarts of sweet tea, we used 16 packets of Splenda. If you want to add the equivalent sweetness of other types of sugar substitutes, use the following amounts:
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar substitute
- 4 teaspoons clear liquid Stevia
- 1/3 cup Monk Fruit Granulated Sweetener
Remember, everyone’s sweet tolerance and tastebuds are different. Add less than these amounts first, then taste it and adjust as necessary. I’d love to hear how much sweetener and which kind you used too.
How To Make Sun Tea
In my recipe card I show you how to make tea in the microwave. It’s super fast and if I forget about it on accident, it won’t mean I left the stove on.
Sun tea is another way to brew tea that doesn’t involve using the stove. This works best if the weather gets hotter than 100 degrees. Add 4 teabags to every 2 quarts of water. Place the teabags and the water in your favorite glass pitcher.
Set this out in the sun for about 3-5 hours then mix in the sugar and immediately place it in the refrigerator.
Best Tea For Sweet Tea
Honestly, black tea is the best kind of tea to use. It brews with a pleasantly mild flavor that combines perfectly with your sweetener of choice. Green tea can also be used, but I suggest adding some mint or other flavors.
It is almost too mild and the flavors too understated.
This tea will taste incredible with a light dessert, such as keto lemon sandwich cookies. If it’s a really hot day, then pour a tall glass of sweet tea and enjoy a few keto ice cream bites too.
How Long Does Sweet Tea Last In The Fridge
I don’t know about you, but my family and I will drink tea long before it has a chance to go bad! Sweet tea will stay fresh in your refrigerator for about four days.
After five days I suggest dumping it out and making a fresh batch.
