This school year I’m only going to be shopping for 3 boys. It’s sad that my Evan won’t be going back to school. He’s still lives at home but it’s another reminder that’s he’s not a little kid anymore. Guess who’s not sad about Evan not going back to school? His three younger brothers! I hoped I would be saving a few dollars, but they’re super excited because they seem to think that they can spend a little extra on themselves. We’ll see because I’m pretty set in my back to school ways.
After five kids, you tend to know a little about shopping smart especially when you have one (or three in my case) kids who happen to like fashion as much as their momma. I have three who love to shop for clothes (actually they especially love it when I shop for them). Below are my top five back to school saving tips for shopping for five boys.
I don’t have time to sort each and every single one of the kids socks (that would 35 pairs a socks a week) so, I buy each kids their own color and when I do laundry I separate by color. Target once again has the best socks! Thin, comfy and sometimes I can buy multiple kids black socks (their favorite) and then I separate by the design on the edges or heels.

Yes my kids use their older brother’s clothes. It usually stops once they hit middle school but sometimes I can get away with jeans by adding their own twist to them. It can be distressing the jeans, adding a cartoon patch to the little guys basketball shorts or converting straight legs into skinny jeans (a little costly if you can’t sew like me). Below are some links to tutorials.
* No Sewing * Baggy Jeans Into Skinny Jeans. I’ve tried this tutorial and it works a lot better on slacks which is perfect because my older boys LOVE skinny slacks and they’re always hard to find in their size. – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jyVUGUPL-4

4. Specific Dresser Draws For School Clothes
During the school year I create a school clothes draw for my kids. In it will be clothes that are only to be worn to school not to play outside. This minimizes the wear and tear and sometimes, if I’m lucky, I can get another wear out of the bottoms. Tip: I also keep a Tide pen in just about every corner of the house.
5. Button Up’s Ironed and Ready To Go
I always have a few buttons up’s hung in their closets for those days where my kids get up on time and want to put a little thought into their outfits. Less for me to do in the morning and no running around with a bunch of kid asking “mom where’s my..” Some of my kids favorite spots to shop for their buttons ups are TJ Maxx which you can now shop online ** no kids section** BUT lots of Abercrombie, american Eagle and Hollister in small sizes online click here, American Eagle (a xs can fit a well sized 9 yr old perfectly and their summer sales are amazing see here) Tip: hang immediately after you dry for very minimal ironing.
