Sweet, creamy pumpkin and spicy matcha combine to make a drink that reminds you of crisp walks. Keto pumpkin matcha is simple and tasty!
What Is Matcha
If you’re a green tea fan, then you know what matcha is! Matcha is a green tea powder that’s finely ground from the Camellia Sinensis plant.
It’s one of the most nutritious teas out there, full of antioxidants that boost your body’s defense system. It’s always bright green and it comes all the way from Japan.
Matcha has a unique flavor that’s unlike anything else. It has an earthy, vegetal flavor with subtle notes of sweetness and a touch of bitterness that rounds it all out.
It also has a bit of umami flavors, too. People are either in love with the flavor or they don’t like it at all.
Matcha is one of those things that you either love or your don’t. And it tastes just as good hot as it does cold!
Pumpkin Matcha
I guess I should have called this a pumpkin spice matcha, because I didn’t add any pumpkin puree to this drink. But you won’t miss the pumpkin in it.
The almond milk and sugar-free honey makes it perfectly creamy. In fact, pumpkin puree might make it taste more like a smoothie.
I suggest using a jar of pre-mixed pumpkin pie spice. You could also use apple pie spice – they are pretty much the same thing. Or, make your own spice blend. The ingredients in pumpkin pie spice are:
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Nutmeg
- Cloves
- Allspice
- Black pepper
The black pepper is optional but I think it gives it a fantastic kick.
Keto Pumpkin Matcha
There are just 2 grams net carbs in each glass of keto pumpkin matcha that you whip up! This recipe will make one glass of hot pumpkin spice matcha.
Can you make it ahead of time? I don’t recommend it.
Matcha tastes the best when it is freshly mixed into super-hot water. For the best results, I suggest using a Keurig to make the water hot, or a kettle.
You could make it in the microwave, but I prefer heating the water on the stove. It heats completely without leaving any spots unheated.
Don’t forget to grab unsweetened, plain, almond milk. Sweetened almond milk has too much sugar for the keto diet and vanilla almond milk will overpower the flavors in the matcha.
Pumpkin Drink
Nothing says, “welcome to Fall” like a hot pumpkin drink! And when you mix the flavors of pumpkin spice with matcha, you get the tastiest cup of hot tea that you’ve ever served.
This hot drink will give you all the aromas of fall without having to eat or drink more pumpkin. In fact, it reminds me a lot of my keto pumpkin chai latte.
I also have a keto pumpkin pie martini recipe that you can make if you’re hosting a fall party. It’s always a good time for a pumpkin-flavored drink.
Keto Drinks
You don’t have to give up yummy drinks just because you’re on the keto diet! All you have to do is make them with sugar substitutes.
For example, my Keto brown sugar shaken espresso copycat is one of my most popular recipes. It is just as sweet and strong!
And if you can’t get enough pumpkin, make a mug of Keto Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. It’s like a really strong pumpkin spice latte and if you love iced coffee, then my Keto Iced Bulletproof Coffee always hits the spot.
