This low carb tiramisu in a jar is a dessert you can serve at parties. Or, keep it for yourself as a snack whenever the craving strikes.
What Is Tiramisu?
If you like coffee-flavored desserts, then you will love tiramisu. It’s a cake made with about three different layers.
There are a bunch of different versions of tiramisu out there. Mine is a sugar-free, single-serving version. It’s something you can grab for yourself and snack on without over-indulging.
What Are The Layers of Tiramisu?
Traditional tiramisu has three layers:
- Ladyfingers that are soaked in coffee
- Sweet whipped cream layer (usually made with mascarpone cheese)
- Topped with cocoa
My keto-friendly version also has three layers – a cake made with almond flour and espresso powder, a sugar-free sweet cream, and cocoa topping. It tastes just like traditional Italian coffee-flavored dessert, but without the carbs.
Jar Dessert Recipe
Since you will make the dessert in a jar, it is perfect for special occasions. It looks beautiful on a dessert table, where guests can pick up their own jar.
Plus, the jars make it really easy to seal and store for later. Just screw a lid on it so it’s airtight. Then, keep it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Any longer and the cream will soak too much into the almond flour cake and make it soft.
Homemade Tiramisu
This homemade keto-friendly dessert is really easy to prep ahead of time. Make each layer separately. Then, store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to build the layers in the jars.
How To Make Low-Carb Tiramisu
All of the steps and ingredients are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post. To make it easier to assemble the layers in the jars, I made the cake in muffin tins.
Instead of soaking the muffins in coffee or espresso (like they do the ladyfingers in traditional tiramisu), I just added espresso powder to the cake batter. It still has the same coffee taste but without a soggy texture.
Is Tiramisu Hard to Make
No, it really isn’t that difficult to make. It might have more ingredients and steps than lots of my other recipes, but it is still pretty easy to make.
One tip: if you don’t have mascarpone cheese, you can replace it with a 50:50 mixture of whipping cream and cream cheese.
Take this jarred dessert to the next level and add berries or nuts on top!
