Looking for a bold, low-carb twist on a comfort food classic? These Asian sloppy joes are packed with flavor, easy to make, and perfect for weeknight dinners.

Asian Sloppy Joes
If there’s one recipe that sums up childhood, it’s the sloppy Joe. This sandwich is known for being camp food fare, the sauce falling out of the bun onto the plate.

I took the basic sloppy joe – the ground beef and sweet tomato sauce – and added an Asian twist.
I kept the tomato base in the sauce. But I added ginger, stir fry sauce, and some sesame oil.
It has all that nutty umami goodness that you love about Asian food.
And it has that saucy texture that was so fun to eat as a kid! There is so much to love about this recipe – including how little it costs to make.
This is a budget-friendly meal since the most expensive ingredients are the ground pork and keto-friendly buns.
If you’ve made Asian foods before, you probably already have ginger paste, sesame oil, and minced garlic.
Low-Carb Sloppy Joes
I cook so much chicken, kielbasa, and beef that I took a break this time and used ground pork! And it tastes so good – especially when I used it in sloppy joes.

But you don’t have to use the ground pork. Feel free to swap for ground chicken or turkey.
Plus, when you change the flavors in the sauce, you keep dinnertime fun.
So if you want to make the sauce spicier, add red pepper flakes or your favorite hot sauce.
You could even dice some jalapenos and add them to the sloppy joes.
How To Store Sloppy Joes
As the keto diet became more popular, it became easier to find low-carb bread and buns in the store. So have fun with the buns and buy your favorite kind.

Read the ingredients and make sure you like everything they used. Or, make your own! This would taste delicious with some keto cloud bread as the buns.
But you don’t need any buns at all! Pile it on top of some cauliflower rice.
Or add it on top of some Palmini noodles. You could even use the sloppy joes as filling for stuffed peppers.
And if you’re in a rush, you can eat it without anything else. Just grab a fork – it tastes so good by it self.
Sloppy Joe Toppings
Kids (and kids at heart) prefer to eat it without any toppings at all. But if you want to change it up, add something to the sloppy joes.

I added some sesame seeds, green onions, and thinly sliced cucumbers. The cucumbers give it a satisfying crunch.
You could also add some thinly-shredded cabbage for a bit of crunch, too! But the sloppy joes really don’t need any toppings at all.
The water chestnuts, onions, and ground pork work perfectly together to add thee amount of texture.
What To Eat With Sloppy Joes
Normally, sloppy joes are served with things like French Fries or mashed potatoes. And you could serve keto-friendly versions of them, like keto mozzarella sticks or keto mashed cauliflower.

But these are Asian sloppy joes, so I like to serve them with Chinese or Asian sides.
Start out with keto egg drop soup, then make some egg roll in a bowl. And for a bit of seafood, make keto crab rangoon casserole.
