How To Make Jalapeño Low-Carb Bagels
The entire recipe is at the bottom of this post. First, I’m going to share the ingredients and any cooking tips that will help you along the way.
The good thing about this recipe is that you don’t need any fancy kitchen tools. If you have a baking sheet and oven, then you can make these bagels!
What’s In Keto Bagels
This is one of my favorite almond flour bagels because of the spice. I could seriously just eat them plain!
Here’s what I used in my bagels, along with any substitutions.
- Mozzarella Cheese – This cheese melts the best, use mozzarella. Any other cheese doesn’t come out right.
- Eggs
- Cream cheese
- Almond flour – Use almond flour, not almond meal. Almond meal will make the bagels taste grainy.
- Coconut flour
- Baking powder
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Jalapeño, seeded and diced
- Bacon bits – Use fresh bacon for a fuller flavor and better texture
- Minced garlic
Savory Fat Head Dough Bagels
These are also called fat head dough bagels. Fat head dough is a gluten-free dough that uses mozzarella as the main ingredient.
Some bagels have a very mild flavor. Not these! The peppers give it a bold heat!
How To Serve Jalepeño Popper Bagels
I call them jalepeño popper bagels because they really do have all the flavors of a jalepeño popper! When you eat them, you’ll taste the bite of the pepper and the richness of the cheese.
This recipe makes a savory bagel that is perfect for either breakfast or lunch. They have a little too many carbs to eat as a snack – unless you watch your macros.
Here are some ways you can eat or serve these bagels, any time of day.
- Toast and melt butter on top for a savory breakfast
- Use as a sandwich with eggs and bacon
- Spread cream cheese on top for a fat-bomb lunch idea
- Add avocado for a different take on avocado toast
- Top with smoked salmon for a spicy lunch
How To Store Low-Carb Bagels
These will dry out pretty quickly, so store them in an airtight container of some sort. You can keep them in a sealed bag or container with a lid. They will stay fresh this way for about a week.
Can You Freeze Keto Bagels?
Yes, these are the perfect thing to freeze and keep for later. Here’s how to freeze keto bagels like this recipe.
- Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Put the baking sheet in the freezer until all the bagels are frozen completely.
- Put the frozen bagels in a zippered freezer bag.
- Write the current date on the bag.
- Place the bag of bagels back in the freezer.
They will stay fresh in the freezer for about 3 months.
When you are ready to eat them again, either put them in the toaster or heat them in the oven at 300 degrees F until they are heated through – about 20 minutes.
