Serve keto-baked ham with an irresistible sugar-free honey mustard glaze for your holiday dinner. Only 4g net carbs per serving – so you can indulge in other types of food at the meal too.
Can You Eat Baked Ham On Keto Diet?
Whether you can eat baked ham on the keto diet or not depends on how it is glazed and prepared. According to Eat This Much, there are 2g net carbs in 2 ounces of an unglazed spiral ham.
If you ever see a glazed ham, just expect it to be covered in either honey or some other type of sugar – which isn’t good on the keto diet. Unglazed ham – or baked ham with a sugar-free glaze – is low enough in carbs to be keto-friendly.
Honey-Baked Ham Low-Carb
Here it is! The answer to your holiday dinner questions! A low-carb honey-baked ham is a keto-friendly holiday main dish.
It has the same sweet and salty taste that everyone loves. You can serve this to everyone – even people who aren’t on the keto diet. No one will be able to tell it is made with a sugar-free glaze.
After your holiday dinner, save the leftover ham in a sealed food storage container or plastic food storage bag. You can use it on some low-carb sandwiches, or in some other low-carb recipes (which I’ll share next).
Keto Baked Ham
It’s kind of impressive how much meat is on a spiralized ham! If you have a small family, I suggest buying half a ham. You will be surprised at the number of slices even half a ham will give you.
There are lots of ways that you can use leftover ham. Dice it up and add it to keto cauliflower fried rice. You can also chop it up and use it in a low-carb egg casserole for breakfast or brunch. I also love to use leftover ham in my salads. Diced ham is perfect in my low-carb chicken broccoli salad.
Basically, if a recipe calls for bacon, you can replace it with finely-chopped ham. It’s a simple replacement.
Keto Ham Glaze
I love this ham glaze, and I bet you will too! It is perfectly sweet and tangy with a little earthy sweetness mixed in. Dijon mustard adds a robust flavor and is lightly sweetened with Swerve brown sugar substitute and sugar-free honey.
There really is such a thing as sugar-free honey! It’s not honey from bees, it is basically xylitol, xanthan gum, and honey flavoring.
Trust me, use fresh thyme. This is what gives the glaze the trademark aromatic flavors. As the fresh thyme cooks down into the glaze, you’ll be able to smell it!
Honey Ham Keto
There are only 4g net carbs in each slice of ham, so this definitely qualifies as a keto-friendly recipe. Give yourself plenty of time to bake it. I kept it in the oven for about 40 minutes. That was long enough for the glaze to caramelize and infuse into the ham.
You should also remember to cover the ham with foil when you bake it. This way the outer edges won’t burn as it cooks it from the outside in.
When you serve this ham for your family, add some keto green bean casserole to the side, along with some mashed cauliflower and my favorite low-carb pumpkin pecan custard – and you have a complete meal!
