This is the cheesiest side dish and that’s what makes it so great! Keto broccoli cauliflower au gratin has sliced sausage, making it a complete meal.
What Is Au Gratin
Have you ever heard of au gratin potatoes? If you have, then you probably have an idea what au gratin means.
It’s a French word that describes any dish that is sprinkled with bread crumbs or grated cheese and then browned. It’s usually baked, but I’ve seen au gratin recipes made in the air fryer or even on the stove and then broiled.
The most popular type of food to serve au gratin is potatoes, which is why you’ve heard of them.
I took my favorite au gratin potatoes recipe and turned it into something deliciously low-carb. I just replaced the potatoes with some broccoli and cauliflower.
Then, I added some sliced smoked sausage to give it some protein and make it a complete meal.
Broccoli Cauliflower Au Gratin
I got the idea to make broccoli cauliflower au gratin after making Keto Cauliflower Au Gratin. It was such a delicious recipe that I wanted to find a way to turn that simple side into a hearty meal.
Turns out, adding some broccoli and sausage is the perfect choice! Use either fresh or frozen broccoli and cauliflower.
Trust me, use pre-chopped cauliflower. Cutting up a head of cauliflower is tedious and very messy.
After you steam the veggies, pat them down with a paper towel. That way, the veggies won’t water down the cheesy sauce.
Keto Broccoli Au Gratin
This complete meal makes six hearty servings, each with 6 grams of net carbs. It’s high in fiber and protein, and the sausage and cream cheese make it high in fat, too.
It’s basically the perfect casserole for anyone on the keto diet.
Can you leave the sausage out? Yes, you sure can! Even without the sausage, the broccoli and cauliflower au gratin will still make a hearty and filling side dish.

Then, store this recipe in the refrigerator in an airtight container. Keep it chilled, and eat it within three days. It tastes delicious the next day.
Keto Sides
Since there are already 6 grams net carbs in each serving, you don’t have to add very many sides to the table with it. But if you want to make something, I have a few ideas.
How about something sweet? My basil marinated berries and cottage cheese is so fruity.
And if you like bread, then make my keto garlic knots – they taste just like garlic bread! If you prefer toast, make some low-carb garlic toast on the side with it.
A chopped salad will be perfect with the cheesy casserole, too. This shrimp avocado and spinach salad is one of my favorites!
Low-carb chicken cobb salad is another contender. They both taste delicious.
