Smoky jerk seasoning makes this the tastiest shrimp recipe you’ll ever make! Southern fried cabbage and shrimp will light up your tastebuds.
What Is Jerk Seasoning
Jerk seasoning is a spice blend that’s popular in Jamaican food. It’s a spice rub that usually used to flavor meat.
It has a distinct flavor that comes from cayenne pepper, allspice, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, parsley, brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. It’s a bold spice and some versions are sweetened with brown sugar.
So, when you buy jerk seasoning at the store, always read the ingredients label. Only buy the kinds that are made without any sugar (and there are a lot of brands that don’t include any brown sugar).
I fell in love with this spice rub when I made Keto Jerk Chicken. The result was so amazing that I decided to make a fried cabbage and shrimp recipe.
Keto Jerk Shrimp
I love making recipes with shrimp because it cooks so quickly and easily. All you have to do is add the shrimp to the skillet and saute it for a few minutes.
Can you use a different type of meat? Yes, you can use cubed chicken instead of shrimp.
In fact, jerk chicken and cabbage will taste incredible together. But I love how the tender, light shrimp tastes with the bold and smoky jerk seasoning.
Southern Fried Cabbage and Shrimp
Even though both purple and green cabbage will taste delicious in this recipe, I prefer making it with shredded green cabbage. I love how mild the green cabbage is. It allows the bold jerk seasoning to stand out.
Green cabbage tastes incredible with the sweet and smoky shrimp. Fried cabbage and shrimp is a classic Southern recipe.
It’s just as southern as my keto shrimp and grits recipe. In fact, it’s so southern, you should serve it with a glass of keto sweet tea!
What To Eat With Shrimp
If you order Jamaican jerk shrimp at a restaurant, they will probably serve it with plantains, mango salsa, or grilled pineapple. Basically, they’ll serve it with something sweet.
But all of those are too high in carbs. So, what should you serve with fried cabbage and shrimp?
I suggest serving it with keto vanilla mousse for something sweet to pair with all the spice. As for the savory sides, add some keto cauliflower rice or cauliflower mash.
I also like making low-carb garlic rosemary rolls on the side too.
How To Store Cooked Shrimp
Add the southern fried cabbage and shrimp to your meal prep this week. Store portions of it in an airtight food storage container.
Keep it in the refrigerator for up to three days. Then, reheat it in the microwave.
This is a freezer-friendly dinner recipe, too. Place the room temperature meal in a freezer-safe food storage container or bag and keep it in the freezer for up to six months and then reheat it in a skillet when you’re ready to eat it again.
