What Are Poblano Poppers

Poblano poppers are basically the same thing as jalapeno poppers, but made with poblano peppers. If you think that jalapeno peppers are too spicy, then you must try these.

Poblano peppers are known to be a lot milder than jalapenos. Poblanos are also larger, so if it took two or three jalapeno poppers to fill you up, you might just need one poblano popper. 

Poblanos also taste different than jalapenos. Poblanos have a complex, smoky flavor. On the other hand, Jalapenos have a bright, slightly grassy flavor with a hint of fruitiness.

Another random fact – when they are dried out, poblano peppers are called ancho peppers!

Yes, poblano peppers are keto-friendly. In one 100-gram serving, there are just 2.54 grams net carbs. Not only are they low in carbs, but they are really good for you, too!

There are a few ingredient swaps you can make, if you want. First, change the cheese!

For more spice, shred some pepper jack cheese. You can also use turkey bacon instead of pork bacon and if you want the poblano poppers to be extra spicy, drizzle some hot sauce on top of the cream cheese mixture. 

How To Make Poblano Poppers

Making poblano poppers is a lot like making jalapeno pepper poppers. The most important step is to carefully cut the peppers in half and remove all the seeds.

To do this, use a small paring knife that is easy for you to handle. You can also use kitchen scissors to do this. 

Then, all you have to do is mix the filling together, add it to the peppers, bake it, and then add the cheese and bake it until it melts. 

I used the oven, but you can also make poblano poppers in the air fryer. To make them in the air fryer, set the air fryer to 400F and fry them for about 10 minutes. 

What To Eat With Poblano Poppers

Whether you’re going to serve these pepper poppers for a party, snack, or lunch, I suggest serving them with something spicy. That just makes them so much more fun to eat!

Ingredients

  • Poblano Peppers
  • Olive Oil 
  • Cream Cheese
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Bacon 
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder 

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Brush the tops of each poblano pepper half and place them on the baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes, until the peppers are just beginning to soften.

While the peppers are baking, stir together the cream cheese, 1 cup cheddar cheese, bacon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.

Remove the peppers from the oven and carefully spread the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pepper.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Poblano Peppers Halved, with seeds removed
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 8 oucnes Cream Cheese softened
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 6 strips Bacon Finely Chopped
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
