This easy keto pepper steak is a budget-friendly family meal that you can also make as a healthy meal prep for the entire week.
I love creating multi-purpose recipes that I can use in lots of different ways, and that is exactly the kind of recipe that this is!
Even though steak tends to be one of the priciest meats, this recipe is still budget-friendly.
I’ll share how to find the best steaks that will save you money – and how to use this recipe in your keto meal plan.
20-Minute Keto Dinner
From start to finish, this recipe only takes 20 minutes to prepare. Speed up your cooking time by pre-slicing the peppers or buying peppers that are already sliced.
The most time-consuming part of this recipe is cutting up the meat and veggies. Everything else is a breeze.
This is a budget-friendly meal too. The most expensive thing in this recipe is the steak. If you are on a really tight budget, you can buy some top round steaks for a pretty fair price.
Keep in mind that top round is a very tough cut of meat. To make it more tender, use a meat tenderizer (like pounding it with a meat mallet) or let it marinate overnight.
My recipe calls for top sirloin, which is the pricier type of sirloin. The budget-friendly option is bottom sirloin (or just labeled “sirloin”). Bottom sirloin is leaner so it is a little tougher but still tastes perfect with my recipe.
Pepper Steak Sauce Recipe
Keep the sauce recipe handy. Even if you just grill up some steaks, you can use this sauce on top or dip the steaks into it. It’s a really easy combination of ginger paste, soy sauce, and brown sugar substitute.
My favorite brown sugar substitute is Swerve. It is the best one out there. It doesn’t leave an aftertaste and mixes in with the sauce really well.
Don’t forget to add some xanthan gum to the sauce. This is what will thicken it up.
Low Carb Family Meals
Maybe it is because my kids love beef and steak, but this is one of their favorite meals. Sometimes, I even add a few mushrooms to the skillet to make it more filling and nutritious.
There are lots of ways you can serve this recipe, too! Here are just a few of my favorite ways to eat it.
- Serve with cauliflower rice
- Wrap in lettuce wraps
- Serve with keto garlic bread
- Toss with zoodles
