With a bold red color and filled with rich chocolate chips, these keto red velvet waffles make breakfast time a lot more fun!
Red Velvet Waffles
After I made red velvet cookies, I fell back in love with the flavors of red velvet again! It’s a rich cocoa that’s slightly sweet. If you love red velvet too, then you’re really going to enjoy these fluffy waffles!
Since they are made with almond flour, they are naturally gluten-free. And the Swerve granulated sugar substitute and baking powder work together to make them irresistibly fluffy.
To make them bright red (like they should be) I used red food coloring. I know that food coloring isn’t everyone’s favorite.
So the good news is that it’s completely optional. You can leave it out and still enjoy tasty chocolate chip chocolate waffles!
Keto Waffles
When I first started the keto diet, I didn’t want to give up waffles and pancakes. So, one of the first low-carb recipes I made with Lemon Poppyseed Keto Waffles.
They are amazing! And they taste just like traditional waffles.
What’s the difference between waffles and chaffles? It’s all in the ingredients. Chaffles are made with cheese and eggs (and a few other ingredients).
Waffles are made with almond flour, baking powder, sweetener, and other baking supplies. For this reason, my keto waffles are fluffier and taste more like waffles than my chaffles do.
Chocolate Chip Waffles
It’s ok to keep a sweet tooth when you go on the keto diet! You just have to use low-carb sweeteners and ingredients.
For example, I used canned pumpkin to make keto French toast. And it’s even better than traditional french toast!
To make Keto Coffee Cake, I used a combination of almond and coconut flour. So, to make the keto chocolate chip waffles, you just need to use keto-friendly chocolate chips and a sugar substitute.
The icing drizzle is my favorite part of the waffles. I used Swerve Confectioner’s sugar substitute with vanilla and heavy whipping cream. It’s delicious!
What To Eat With Waffles
This is the perfect thing to eat for breakfast or brunch. Serve the rich red velvet waffles with some Keto Ricotta Pancakes. They are so tasty that you don’t even need syrup.
The waffles will also taste delicious with some keto crispy cinnamon cream cheese roll ups. They taste like churro cheesecake!
I also like to make a keto baked avocado egg with the breakfast hash. It’s high-fat and extra filling. Then, sip on a keto brown sugar shaken espresso and you have the perfect meal.
How To Store Cooked Waffles
If you make a huge batch of waffles, you can freeze them and then just toast the frozen waffle when you want a really quick healthy breakfast.
Of course, they only take about 10 minutes to make, so I prefer to whip up a batch fresh each time. But, if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
