Instead of takeout, make a homemade keto black pepper chicken recipe. It has the same bold flavors without the sugar and carbs.
Keto Black Pepper Chicken
Black pepper chicken is one of the most keto-friendly options you can order from Panda Express. In 6 ounces, there are still 13 grams net carbs! It’s a lot, and all due to the marinade they soak the chicken in.
It’s so tasty that I knew I wanted to make a low-carb copycat of this same recipe. I love how tender and juicy the chicken pieces are, and how the umami flavors stand out with the sauteed peppers.
My keto-friendly recipe tastes the same as the entree from Panda Express, but mine only has 3 grams net carbs in each serving. That’s so much easier to fit into your keto diet.
Panda Express Copycat
If you love making popular takeout recipes at home, then check out the keto walnut chicken stir fry recipe. It’s another keto-friendly Panda Express copycat recipe.
For the black pepper chicken, you’ll want to use thick oyster sauce, ground ginger, and some rice vinegar. Do not use Mirin, only use rice vinegar. Mirin is a rice wine that is really high in sugars and carbs. Rice vinegar has no carbs in it, just the tanginess from the vinegar.
Black Pepper Chicken Recipe
It’s really easy to make the black pepper chicken as spicy or as mild as you want it to be. To make it spicier, add more chili powder, some red pepper flakes, or a dash of Sriracha. If you want this to be super mild, don’t add any chili powder.
For the chicken, I used chicken thighs. Chicken thighs cook juicier, so they are the cut I prefer to use in this recipe. You can use chicken breasts instead, but cut them really thin and make sure they marinate for at least an hour (preferably overnight).
Keto Chinese Chicken Recipe
Serve your keto Chinese chicken recipe with your favorite Asian side dishes. Add a bowl of keto hot and sour soup to the table, with some low-carb scallion pancakes and some Dan Dan noodles.
You’ll have a huge feast that’s gluten-free and keto-friendly and tastes just like fast food.
How To Store Cooked Chicken
Add this recipe to your weekly meal prep! Store the cooked chicken in an airtight food storage container and keep it refrigerated for up to three days.
It’s best to reheat it on the stove or in the air fryer to keep the veggies crispy.
