Thinly sliced turnips replace potatoes in this keto country hamburger skillet dinner. Fresh ingredients make this simple skillet recipe taste like you spent hours on it – but it’s ready in just 30 minutes.

What Is Country Hamburger 

Also called a creamy beef and potatoes skillet, a country hamburger dinner is made with a lot of cheese, ground beef, and thinly sliced potatoes. It’s a classic southern meal that goes with the saying, “meat and potatoes.”

Sliced Turnips

You could also think of country hamburger skillet as a homemade Hamburger Helper that’s made with potatoes instead of pasta. This easy dinner recipe is ready in just 30 minutes.

You can make it with other types of meat, you don’t have to use ground beef. Try it with ground turkey or chicken or make it with half ground beef and half Italian sausage for a more pronounced flavor.

When it comes to easy recipes, you can’t get easier than this! The entire meal is made in one skillet and it’s ready in 30 minutes.

This is a basic recipe, leaving you a lot of options for changing it. If you don’t like onions, leave them out.

Instead of Worcestershire sauce, use some beef broth with Thyme, Basil, and Oregano. And to really make the flavors stand out, shred some pepper jack cheese at home.

Freshly shredded cheddar is creamier and tastes bolder.

Can you make this in the slow cooker? Yes you can. If you’re going to make it in the slow cooker, I suggest adding 1/2 a cup of beef broth so the turnips have something to soak up.

As it cooks, the liquid will absorb and you don’t want the meat and veggies to dry out. Cook the skillet meal in the slow cooker for about 2-4 hours on low.

I don’t recommend using the high setting. 

This recipe is ready in just 30 minutes. so I prefer to make it on the skillet. Dinner is ready faster than the time it takes to order takeout! 

What To Eat With Ground Beef

This is an entire meal in a skillet, but if you want to add something on the side, make some cauliflower mashed potatoes as the side dish. Or some garlic butter cauliflower rice will taste really good, too.

Other side dishes that will taste amazing with it also have lots of garlic. Try it with some keto garlic knots or cheese keto garlic toast. 

How To Store Beef Casserole 

It’s really easy to meal prep with the country hamburger skillet dinner. Just place leftovers in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to three days.

Then, you just have to reheat it in the microwave and it’s ready to eat! I like to add a bit more cheese when I’m reheating it. It makes it taste extra fresh.

Keto Country Hamburger Skillet Dinner

 

Ingredients

  • Lean Ground Beef 
  • Turnip 
  • Onion 
  • Minced Garlic 
  • Worcestershire Sauce 
  • Colby Jack Cheese 
  • Green Onions 

Directions 

Adding Turnips to the ground beef

Add the ground beef to a skillet over medium high heat. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and saute until the meat is browned.

Reduce the heat to medium, and mix in the onions, turnip, garlic and Worcestershire sauce.

Diced Onions

Cover and simmer until the turnips are tender. Drain any excess grease if necessary.

Sprinkle on the cheese, and cover to simmer until the cheese has melted. Garnish with green onions before serving.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds Lean Ground Beef
  • 1 large Turnip peeled, cut in half and then thinly sliced
  • 1/2 Onion Chopped
  • 2 tsp Minced Garlic
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups Colby Jack Cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup Green Onions chopped

Instructions
 

  • Add the ground beef to a skillet over medium high heat.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, and saute until the meat is browned.
