This keto Philly cheesesteak casserole is easier than ever because it’s made with ground beef – but still has the same iconic sauce.
What’s In Philly Cheesesteak
A traditional Philly cheesesteak includes grilled rib-eye steak shaved into skinny slices. This thin meat is grilled with either American cheese or Provolone (or both).
Some people in Philadelphia claim that smothering the sandwich in Cheese Whiz is an authentic method of making this sandwich.
Peppers and onions are the other ingredients that almost everyone puts in their Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. Most people use thinly sliced green bell peppers and white onions.

It’s really easy to take everything you love about Philly cheesesteaks and turn it into a low-cost but filling dinner for your family! Replace the shaved rib-eye steak with ground beef, create a savory sauce, and top it with cheese, onions, and peppers.
Worcestershire sauce is the secret to a really good Philly cheesesteak casserole. You don’t have to add salt when you use Worcestershire sauce because it is both salty and savory.
Keto Philly Cheesesteak Casserole
Bread really is the only thing about Philly cheesesteaks that isn’t naturally low in carbs. To make this casserole keto-friendly, I just didn’t add any potatoes or other starchy ingredients.
Peppers, ground beef, onions, mushrooms, the sauce and cheese – are all ingredients I use quite a bit in other recipes.
In fact, I used lots of similar ingredients in my Philly cheesesteak foil packets. Those foil packets are the perfect things to make when you are camping or grilling.
Keto Philly cheesesteak bites have the ground beef, peppers, and cheese baked into a low-carb bun. It gives you the same flavors and textures of a classic sandwich.
I also rolled up these ingredients into a crispy shell and made Philly cheesesteak roll-ups. Or just cover all of these ingredients in a creamy broth and make keto Philly cheesesteak soup. The options are endless!
Low-Carb Philly Cheesesteak Casserole
This casserole works really well for meal prep. Store leftovers in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat it in the microwave.
When I reheat this casserole for leftovers, I like to add another slice of Provolone cheese on top, just to freshen it up and make it taste a bit cheesier.
Ground Beef Philly Casserole
With the name steak in the title, you really should use some type of beef as the main protein, but there is still room for culinary creativity. This casserole will taste delicious with some ground sausage (sugar-free, of course) or some ground turkey.
Or don’t use ground meat at all! Go traditional and use thinly-sliced rib-eye steak in the casserole instead. This will even taste delicious if you have some leftover roast beef. Shred the roast and mix it into the casserole.
