Sweet and savory combine to make the best appetizers for holiday parties. With just 5 ingredients, they are an easy recipe for cooks of all skills.
Are Cranberries Keto
Are cranberries keto? No, cranberries are not keto-friendly, not usually.
That’s why I suggested using sugar-free dried cranberries. There are 3 grams net carbs in about 0.2 ounces of natural, no sugar added, cranberries.
You can enjoy a few pieces of dried cranberries in each sausage ball. But be careful with how many of them you eat at once.
There are 6 grams net carbs in each serving. This recipe makes about 5 servings, so use portion control.
Low-Carb Sausage Balls
To make these sweet and savory baked sausage balls, I used natural ground breakfast sausage. You could use hot and spicy sausage to give it a bit of a kick!
Make sure you don’t use sweetened or maple sausage. You don’t want to add a single carb to the meatballs.
The almond flour gives the sausage balls a nice structure, keeping them together. Remember to use almond flour, not almond meal.
If you use almond meal, the sausage balls might taste a bit grainy.
Cranberry Sausage Balls
What is the best type of shredded cheese to use in sausage balls? I used sharp cheddar cheese.
It has the perfect amount of flavor and melts beautifully as the sausage balls bake. If you have time, I suggest shredding your cheese at home.
It will give them a better flavor. I made the sausage balls in the air fryer.
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can make them in the oven instead. Preheat your oven to 400F and bake the sausage balls for about 15 minutes.
Check the internal temperature. They are safe to eat when the internal temperature reaches 165F.
Keto Appetizers
I like to eat them for lunch or dinner, but these bite-sized sausage balls make a delicious snack or appetizer too. Since there are 6 grams net carbs in each serving, be careful with what you make with them.
If you want to serve them at a party or with friends, I suggest making some keto tomato basil cream cheese pinwheels to go with them.
They are savory and flaky; you can’t tell they are low-carb. Or, for some finger food, make keto antipasto skewers.
Kids love them, and they are easy to make right before the party.
Make-Ahead Appetizers
These are the perfect appetizers to make ahead of the party, giving you more time to plan and decorate. Store the completed sausage balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Serve or eat them within three days.
Can you freeze sausage balls? Yes, you certainly can!
Store them in an airtight freezer-friendly storage bag. Keep them in the freezer for up to six months.
I have a few other make-ahead appetizers I suggest making for your party. Some keto cowboy caviar will be a big hit.
Serve it with some Keto BLT Egg Sliders and low-carb million dollar deviled eggs for a fun party!
