Who knew the best pulled pork is keto-friendly? This root beer BBQ pulled pork is smoky, tangy, and incredibly delicious!

Is Root Beer Keto
Regular root beer is definitely not keto-friendly. There are 39 grams of sugar in 12 ounces of root beer.

But, what about cooking with sugar-free root beer? While it won’t impact your blood sugar with 0 grams of sugar, you still have to be careful with the type of sweetener that is in it.
Stevia leaf extract is a safe sweetener, but the American Cancer Society lists aspartame as “possibly carcinogenic.”
Choose your root beer carefully and only use safe sweeteners. Low Carb Yum has a fantastic guide that lists the safest sweeteners to consume on keto.
Keto Root Beer Pulled Pork
Pork is a very nutritious and lean type of meat, and there are so many things you can do with it. Before I committed to keto, one of my favorite pork recipes was BBQ pulled pork.

I made a Mexican pulled pork once, but this recipe recreates my favorite dish. The combination of smoky, sweet, and spicy flavors dance on your tongue!
The root beer sweetens the pork and caramelizes as it cooks. It is amazing and since you’re making it in the slow cooker, the flavors will slowly infuse into the meat.
Every bite will explode with flavor. And your kitchen will smell so good that you’ll wish for it to finish cooking so you can eat!
Best Keto Buns
I have a recipe for keto Hawaiian bread rolls that will taste as delicious as hamburger buns with pulled pork. If you don’t want to make your own buns, then buy some.

You can find them at any grocery store. In fact, my favorite kind comes from Aldi’s.
Pulled pork is kinda messy, so I don’t recommend trying to use a keto wrap or lettuce wrap. Using a gluten-free and keto-friendly bun will be your best option.
What To Eat With Pulled Pork
The best things to eat with pulled pork are salads! Serve this tangy and tasty sandwich with a few different kinds of salad and you’ll have a filling meal.

The sweet and tangy flavors will taste perfect with keto TikTok mini peppers and cucumber salad. It’s also perfect with a filling keto Cheesecake factory chopped salad or a keto BLT zucchini noodles salad.
I say serve all three of them together!
How To Store Cooked Pork
Add the cooked pulled pork to your meal prep! Store the cooked pork in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator for up to three days.

I suggest keeping extra BBQ sauce on-hand because as it sits in the fridge, it will start to dry out a bit. You should also remember to keep the coleslaw in a separate container from the pulled pork.
