Sweet and Sour Meatballs
These sweet and sour meatballs have the iconic tanginess of sugar-free ketchup with smoky BBQ sauce, umami soy sauce, and the heat of ginger paste. And these keto-friendly meatball skewers have all of that flavor, stacked with sweet and crispy bell peppers.
If you want to break out of the hum-drum of boring dinners, then fire up the grill! Keto sweet and sour meatball kabobs are the perfect lunch or dinner.
Keep reading and I’ll share my favorite Asian-inspired sides, as well as some ways that you can eat the leftover meatballs in different meals.
Keto Meatballs
These meatballs are completely homemade from scratch. I used ground beef as the protein because I love how much flavor it has but you can substitute it with ground turkey or chicken if you need a lean meat instead.
Then, you just need some egg whites and a breadcrumb replacement. Pork rind crumbs are the best keto-friendly substitute for breadcrumbs.
They are crispy and add texture to the meatballs without adding a single carb.
Meatball Kabobs
You can call them whatever you want – kabobs, skewers, or shish kebabs. No matter what you call them, they are addictingly delicious.
So, if you want to make them perfectly the first time, I have a few tips. First, whenever you grill with bamboo skewers, always soak them in water first.
This will prevent them from catching fire or burning. Next, cook the skewers on a grill that’s preheated to high heat.
This will give you that caramelized sear that you love so much about grilled food.
Finally, check the internal temperature before deciding if they are fully cooked. Beef meatballs should be cooked until they reach and internal temperature of 165F.
What To Eat With Kebabs
There are so many low-carb side dishes that you can serve with these sweet and sour meatball skewers. Add some keto dan dan noodles on the side.
They can be as spicy as you want them. If you really like spice, then add some bang bang cauliflower to the side with the meatball skewers.
Keto naked wonton soup is a fantastic starter for your meal, and you can never go wrong with a bowl of delicious keto cauliflower fried rice. If you are eating this outside, then you might want to go simple and just set out a plate of raw veggies.
Basically, use your favorite keto-friendly and Asian-inspired recipes to eat with these meatball kebabs.
How To Store The Meatballs And Use Them Again
I love to use these meatballs and the grilled veggies over again in other recipes. Store your meatballs in an airtight container and eat them within three days.
Then, reheat them and chop up the meatballs and eat them with some fried cauliflower rice. Or wrap the meatballs and veggies in a lettuce wrap.
No matter what, don’t keep the meatballs for more than four days. They are best if you eat them within three days of putting them in the fridge.
