This is a spicy twist on the fried chicken bowls. This low-carb hot honey bowl recipe brings the heat without the carbs.
Hot Honey Chicken Bowl
This easy recipe was inspired by KFC famous chicken bowls. They serve crispy popcorn chicken on top of mashed potatoes, with corn, cheese and gravy.
If you’ve seen many of my other recipes, you already know how much I love spicy food! So, I gave the chicken bowls a little spicy twist.
But instead of just coating the chicken in red pepper flakes or hot sauce, I made my new favorite obsession – hot honey chicken!
The combination of sweet and heat is unmatched. And I love how the hot honey actually makes the broccoli taste sweeter, too!
Keep reading and I’ll share some tips so you make this perfectly the first time (and ever time after that).
Low-Carb Chicken Bowl
How many carbs are in this low-carb hot honey chicken bowl? Well, it’s a bit higher that some of my other chicken recipes.
There are 8 grams net carbs in each serving – and this recipe makes four servings.
How can you lower the amount of carbs? Most of the carbs are coming from the breading on the Real Good Chicken tenders, with some coming from the broccoli and cauliflower.
To get less carbs per serving, chop up some raw chicken and cook it on the stove. Unbreaded chicken will be a lot lower in carbs!
You could also use less broccoli. But the broccoli is so full of nutrients that I suggest keeping the same amount.
Chicken and Broccoli Bowl
What are some ingredient swaps you can use in a hot honey chicken bowl? Instead of chicken tenders, use any type of cooked chicken (like I said earlier).
You could also use chopped pork chops or diced turkey breast instead of chicken. Salmon would also taste incredible with hot honey.
Instead of mashed cauliflower, you can mash either celery root or rutabagas. Lots of low-carb dieters swear that those are the best low-carb alternatives (and some even like them better than cauliflower) and instead of broccoli, you could use zucchini or mushrooms.
Keto Hot Honey Chicken
If you want to add this to your weekly meal prep, please follow these simple tips. First, store each part in a separate container.
Keep the chicken, broccoli, and mashed cauliflower in different containers. This will help them stay fresh longer.
Next, make sure to eat them within three days. This is the amount of time suggested by food safety experts.
Finally, reheat the chicken tenders in the air fryer or oven (if possible). This way, it will still be nice and crispy, just how you like it!
If you used grilled chicken tenders, then you can reheat it in the microwave.
What To Eat With Chicken
This easy recipe has all of your veggies, protein, and healthy fats in one dish. It’s the perfect thing to make when you don’t have time to fuss with making a bunch of side dishes.
If you have a little extra time and want to serve a few other things with it, I have some easy ideas for you!
A soup is the best way to add something light to your meal. And my keto broccoli cream soup is simple and bursting with fresh flavors from herbs.
For a salad, I suggest making keto warm green bean salad with almonds. The color and flavor will go so well with the hot honey chicken.
Then, for dessert, make a low-carb strawberry pretzel parfait. It’s a balance of sweet and salty flavors that are the perfect ending to the meal.
