French Onion Chicken Skillet
If you love classic French Onion Soup, then you will adore this hearty skillet. My favorite thing about French Onion Soup is the combination of caramelized onions with the melted cheese on top.
It’s savory goodness at its best.
In fact, I love French Onion Soup so much that I keep creating spin-off recipes inspired by it. My French Onion pasta was a hit with my family and I love making keto French onion deviled egg salad for lunch.
After making all of those, I knew a chicken and broccoli skillet would work so well. And it really did!
French Onion Chicken and Broccoli
If you do a quick search for “keto skillet recipe” here on my blog, you’ll find out that I really like making skillet recipes. It’s so easy to cook everything in a skillet (and I enjoy less dishes, too).
This recipe is made with four simple ingredients (not counting all those scrumptious spices). It’s made with chicken, onions, broccoli florets, and shredded cheese.
This recipe allows for a lot of creativity and customization. For example, you can use chicken thighs instead of breasts, garlic salt instead of garlic powder, apple cider vinegar, or your favorite wine vinegar instead of balsamic vinegar.

But changing the type of cheese you use is one of the best ways to customize this recipe. I used a mixture of shredded gruyere and gouda cheese.
It gave the skillet the iconic bite that French Onion soup is known for.
What other type of cheese can you use? Try it with swiss or fresh mozzarella cheese.
You might notice that this casserole doesn’t have a crust. Classic French Onion Soup usually includes some kind of croutons or bread but since this is a keto recipe, I left it out.
If you want, you can serve this with a slice of toasted keto-friendly bread.
What To Eat With Chicken
I created this recipe so it would be an entire meal in one dish. It’s filled with meat and veggies.
If you want to serve something on the side, I would keep it light.
Keto chicken bacon ranch cups are fun to eat and filled with crispy lettuce and veggies or serve it with a bowl of low-carb Chick-Fil-A tortilla soup. For a light salad, I suggest making keto sliced cucumber chicken salad.
Chicken and Broccoli Meal Prep
This chicken skillet dinner is perfect for your meal prep. Store the cooked cheesy chicken and broccoli in an airtight storage container and keep it in the refrigerator for up to three days.
Then, just reheat it in the microwave! You can chop up the chicken and use it on a salad or eat it straight out of the bowl.
To make leftovers tastier, add a bit more cheese.
