What Is Chicken Piccata 

Chicken piccata is a classic Mediterranean recipe made with thin-sliced chicken served with a lemony sauce and flavored with capers. In fact, it’s the fresh lemons and salty capers that give this chicken dinner an iconic flavor that everyone craves.

The tart and slightly-sour lemons complement that floral notes in the capers. 

Chicken piccata skillet has a sauce that is usually pretty thick, savory, and a lot of fun to serve over pasta or as a dip for crusty bread. The sauce is so delicious, that you might find yourself eating every single bite.

My chicken piccata recipe only has 2 grams net carbs per serving. So I added some kale to round out the flavors. The result is a colorful, flavorful dinner.

Keto Chicken Piccata Skillet

If you want to increase the aroma and flavors, I suggest using red onion instead of white ones. 

I also suggest slicing the chicken breasts so they are perfectly thin. This is really important because it helps it to cook evenly and quickly.

Remember, chicken should cook until it reaches an internal temperature of 165F. 

Keto Chicken Skillet 

This is the perfect recipe to make when you’re running out of time. It takes about 10-15 minutes of prep time and only 25 minutes cooking time.

You can speed up the prep time if you do all the slicing and dicing ahead of time. 

To save a lot of time cook the chicken ahead of time and store the cooked chicken breasts until it’s time to make dinner. Then, add the cooked chicken to the skillet. 

What To Eat With Chicken

Keto chicken piccata tastes amazing with anything you want to serve on the side. Add something sweet, like basil marinated berries and cottage cheese.

If you want a salad on the side, make either keto southwest salad or some keto Caesar broccoli salad.

Then, serve some keto cottage cheese edible cookie dough for dessert. It’s the perfect thing to finish off a delicious dinner.

 Store leftover cooked chicken in an airtight container. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to three days.

You can also freeze this chicken. Place it in a freezer-safe storage bag and freeze it for up to six months.

Then, let it thaw overnight in the refrigerator before trying to reheat it.

Keto Chicken Piccata Skillet Ingredients

Ingredients

  • Olive Oil 
  • Chicken Breasts
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder 
  • Italian Seasoning 
  • Butter
  • Onion 
  • Kale 
  • Minced Garlic 
  • Lemon Juice 
  • Capers 

Directions 

Cooking Chicken Breasts

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Season the chicken with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder and salt and pepper to taste.

Sear the chicken evenly on both sides until cooked through. Remove and set aside.

Kale

Reduce the heat to medium, and melt 4 Tbsp of the butter in it. Add the onions and kale to the skillet, and saute until beginning to soften.

Stir in the capers, minced garlic and lemon, and saute for 1 minute.

Melt the remaining butter in the skillet. Return the chicken, and toss to coat in the sauce before serving.

  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 6 tbsp Butter divided
  • 1/2 Onion Chopped
  • 3 cups Kale chopped
  • 2 tsp Minced Garlic
  • Juice from half a lemon
  • 2 tbsp Capers

Instructions
