Is Chicken Sausage Keto
Chicken sausage is basically sausage that’s made with chicken meat. Whether it’s keto-friendly depends on the brand you buy but most types of chicken sausage are low-carb.
Read the nutrition label before you buy them. Most chicken sausages have about 2 grams net carbs in each sausage link.
Chicken Sausage and Peppers
Sausage and pepper is a classic combination! I made Keto Cheesy Sausage & Peppers before.
It’s still one of my favorite go-to recipes, especially on busy weeknights. And if you want to, you could make this recipe with pork or beef sausage.
So why should you use chicken sausage instead of other types? Chicken has substantially less saturated fat than Italian sausage links.
There is only 1 gram saturated fat in chicken sausage, but 8 grams of saturated fat in Italian sausage. And, surprisingly, the chicken sausage has more protein.
There are 14 grams of protein in one Italian sausage link, but 16 grams of protein in one chicken sausage link.
Air Fryer Sausage and Peppers
There are three ways to cook sausage and peppers. You could fry them in a skillet on the stove, bake them in the oven, or use the air fryer.
While I don’t mind the stove, baking them takes the longest (especially since you have to wait for the oven to pre-heat).
That’s why I love using the air fryer so much! All you have to do is add everything to the air fryer basket, turn it on, and then shake it halfway through baking.
It’s quick and easy (and clean-up isn’t half bad either).
What To Eat With Chicken Sausage
This is a pretty common Italian recipe, so I suggest serving American or Italian side dishes with it.
Start out with a small bowl of keto sliced cucumber chicken salad. If you love cheese, then make keto broccoli mac and cheese on the side or make something vibrant, like keto warm green bean salad.
For dessert, make some keto white chocolate raspberry cheesecake bars. They might be higher in carbs, but they’re worth it!
How To Store Sausage and Peppers
This is the perfect recipe to add to your weekly meal prep because the sausage and peppers stay deliciously fresh for up to three days. Keep your leftover cooked meal in an airtight container.
Then, eat them within three days.
Use your air fryer to reheat them. That will make them crispy and juicy again.
If you heat them in the microwave, the peppers will get a bit softer, which isn’t always the best texture.
