What Is Mongolian Beef
Mongolian beef is something you’ll probably find at almost any Chinese restaurant. It’s usually made with steak that has a crispy coating (from flour or cornstarch) and then tossed in a sweet sauce (that uses either brown sugar or honey).
The crispy coating and the honey or sugar make the kind you get at the restaurant have way too many carbs to be keto-friendly.
But I still love the flavors! I made a skillet Mongolian Beef recipe with ground beef and mushrooms, and it was a huge hit with my family.
still wanted to recreate the kind you get at the restaurant, with the steak and veggies. But I didn’t want to stand at the skillet. So, I made an air fryer recipe!
Air Fryer Mongolian Beef
Making an air fryer Mongolian beef recipe was such a good idea! This is a super quick, super easy recipe!
The most time-intensive part of this recipe is slicing the steak. You can even slice the steak ahead of time and then keep it in the refrigerator until dinner time.
I used green beans with the steak, but green beans are a bit higher in carbs than peppers. There are still just 4 grams net carbs in each serving. If you want to cut the carbs even more, you can replace the green beans with green bell peppers.
Best Cut of Steak to Air Fry
To make Mongolian beef in the air fryer, I suggest using a tender cut of beef. I used Sirloin Steak. If you use flank steak, make sure it is thin so it’s easier to eat. Other choices you can air fry include Top Sirloin, KC Strip, Ribeye, Tenderloin and Tri Tip.
If you want to use a cheaper cut of steak, remember it will probably be tougher. I suggest marinating it first before you air fry it. Marinating will help break down the tissue and make it tastier at the same time.
What To Eat With Mongolian Beef
This is a classic Asian recipe, so serve it with your favorite Chinese-inspired sides. When I am really busy, I like to just serve this on top of some cauliflower rice.
This is an easy dinner that is ready in minutes. For lunch, I add this on top of lettuce wraps.
Other sides that taste really good with Mongolian beef are keto egg roll soup and keto bok choy stir fry with soy sauce eggs.
I love frying bok choy! It really brings out the sweetness in it.
How To Store Chinese Leftovers
This is the perfect recipe to add to your meal prep rotation. The green beans and the steak are really easy to heat back up later in the week.
Store your leftover Mongolian beef in an airtight food storage container and keep it refrigerated for up to three days.
Yes, you can freeze this recipe, too! Put it in a freezer-safe food storage bag. Keep it in the freezer for up to six months. Reheat it on a skillet on the stove.
