Keto Cracker Barrel
Cracker Barrel is known for making “homestyle food.” They have a huge menu that is filled with all sorts of carby food, from breaded fried chicken to waffles, pancakes, and even burgers and fries.
One of their most popular menu items is the chicken and dumplings. It’s heartier than chicken noodle soup, with a savory broth and dumplings that melt in your mouth.
If you’re on the keto diet, it’s really tough to eat low-carb food at Cracker Barrel. So I recreated chicken and dumplings and made it keto-friendly!
Keto Dumplings
It’s easy enough to make a creamy chicken skillet recipe. I’ve done it before (and loved it!). What I really wanted to do was recreate dumplings but make them gluten-free and keto-friendly.
The secret to the perfect low-carb dumplings is to use fathead dough. This is an easy combination of mozzarella cheese, cream cheese, almond flour, egg, and a few other spices and ingredients.
I’ve used fathead dough before to make keto crack biscuits and a keto bread bowl. This easy combination of ingredients makes dumplings that are flaky and taste just like the kind you’d get at Cracker Barrel!
Copycat Cracker Barrel Chicken and Dumplings
It might shock you, but there are just 4 grams net carbs in each serving of this hearty dinner! That leaves you enough carbs left over to add some matchstick carrots to the soup if you want to boost the nutrition a bit.
This soup is the perfect thing to eat when you’re feeling a little under the weather. It’s just as nourishing and healthy for you as either my chicken detox soup or my keto chicken and noodle soup.
What To Eat With Dumplings
This is the perfect soup to add to any dinner – or eat it by itself for lunch. I like to pair this soup with some keto TikTok mini peppers and cucumber salad.
The flavors really go well together. This soup also tastes delicious with easy keto broccoli salad and keto dinner rolls.
Once you get good at using that fathead dough, you can make garlic knots, or keto breadsticks with it. Plus, they are so fun to dip into the broth with the dumplings.
How To Store Dumplings
I don’t recommend trying to store the soup with the dumplings. Enjoy it as soon as you make it. If you try to store the dumplings with the soup, they will soak up the broth and become too soft.
If you want to store it for later, keep the soup and the dumplings in separate containers.
